Had to google those terms! I'm rusty. 1x sounds interesting....
Maybe I should just get out on the Paddy Wagon again to start with (although I'd have to walk it up the hill to my home!).
I bought mine s/h, I think from someone here - modified with mavic wheels and carbon fork/seat post and a couple of other bits. It currently lives in the bedroom, I almost sold it a couple of times but just love it too much even just to look at LOL.

Thanks. I know bike theft is a big problem, not too surprising given the amount around here! Where I live we have a cycle rack on our grounds, directly outside a flat, and still we've had bikes stolen. I'm on the 3rd floor so don't really want to carry the bike up and down every time, although there is a store room I can possibly keep the bike in. A folder would be ideal in that respect. Hmm. Another thought is making up a 'rat bike' so most theives would hopefully ignore it and go for the newer looking ones instead!

Hi,
I've not visited this forum for a while, having 'fallen off the bike' - long story but moving/covid/moving again and lots else.
I used to commute on my Paddy Wagon and have a mountain bike that was left at a mates place a few years ago (he's using it and I feel a bit mean asking for it back now!).
I've moved to Brighton and want to get back into cycling. Still have the Paddy Wagon (love that bike) but it's hilly around here and living in a flat space is tight - also bike theft is an issue around here.
Must admit I'm thinking of buying a folder - can't really justify buying a Brompton so maybe a Decathlon bike to try out? Don't really want to go electric either.
I've never ridden a folding bike so I'm a bit unsure. It's just going to be for leisure, riding out along the coast at weekends, around the city and taking out to some of the trails on the South Downs.
Any advice or thoughts very welcome, I'm so unsure as to what to do!
Cheers.

Hi,
I just posted elsewhere here about possibly buying a Brompton as a main bike - what are they like to ride, heard mixed opinions. Is it just a bike for running to the train station or are they OK for general use?
The appeal is having to store the bike in a 1 bed flat it won't take up valuable space!

Hi,
I've not visited here in a long while, not been using my bikes much either but it's a long story.
I'm about to move to a smaller flat which is 2nd floor. Space is limited for keeping one bike let alone 2 (currently have a Kona Paddywagon and a Kona MTB).
I'm loathe to sell either but realistically I will need to, or sell both and buy a Brompton (ideal for storing in the flat and can use it for the journey to the station when going into the office), but I've never ridden one and don't know how viable they are as an 'everyday' bike?
I'm moving to the South Coast so thinking I will start getting out on the bike more often to cycle along the coast, but mostly the bikes are used for running about and exercise, not long rides.
Any advice/suggestions on what to do are welcome!
Cheers.

The 55-250 is said to be very very good in the latest STM version (new optical design), it has IS and it's = to 400mm on the crop sensor.
I was going to buy one myself but had also heard good things about the EF 70-210 f3.5, and older lens without IS but it is good for full frame too. I saw a mint one and took a punt on it. Initial results look great.

I had many harsh years of training in touch typing aka 7 hours of MSN Messenger every day during secondary school. When you can handle 5 simultaneous real-time conversations without leaving any long pauses in any of them, then you have unlocked the secret to typing as fast as you think.
And you are a massive loser who needs real friends. Probably.
Oooh friends, MSN friends, two thumb friends

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots to look at and think about!
