baaack. tony and i made the 135, me, 7-5 and tony i think 7-6.30 then, john came in shortly after having completed the 205 with just one puncture and no crashes... hero!
will upload a load of pics later, feel bruised and sleepy today but cracking weekend as always
Our paths must have crossed somewhere. We rode the 135km, started at 6.50 and finished just before 4.20

I did the 135km route with my friend Eve (a world masters pursuit champ). We left at 06.50 and arrived back at 16.20, having 30 mins stop at each feed. I rode the whole distance (38x24 bottom gear), but Eve walked up some of the steeper climbs.
I'm in the CTC top (row 5&6)
and a photo of both of us at the finish is here

Not getting to the area till sat afternoon, might see some of you out and about on sunday. Driving down from Ijmuiden (after overnight ferry from Newcastle ).
Good luck to all what ever distance you're on.
Wow, that's a long drive, nearly 1000 miles!
Our party is down to 4, just Eve and myself riding the 135km (+ our partners). Stephan is being treated for small clots in his legs (not quite a DVT) and the doctor's advised him against flying.

Windy..... Strewth you guys have it tough....... 45mins to Gatwick for me
Stornoway to Pisa in 21hrs!
Check in for the ferry is 1pm Tuesday and I arrive in Pisa at about 11am Wednesday.
The ferry to Ullapool takes 2hrs 40mins and the drive to Glasgow about 5hrs. Stopping overnight in Ayr and flying from Prestwick at 7am.
I chose Prestwick because it's a direct flight and I want to tag on a few days and visit my parents in Carlisle on the way back home.
My friends leave on the same ferry but fly from Inverness Wednesday morning and change at Gatwick and arr ive in Pisa at about 9.30pm.
It is possible to fly to Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness in less than an hour - but it's expensive and because of the small hold on the twin prop planes Flybe wont guarantee transport of the bike unless there is enough room in the hold after all luggage is loaded. So there's a risk that you could end up getting off the plane with the bike still being in Stornoway.

Getting very excited about everything. Met-Office weather site is worrying tho' as it is showing 30-46mph gusts from Sat-Mon (that's possible ferry cancellation winds). I am booked on Tuesday lunchtime ferry to Ullapool so that I can drive south for the 7am Wednesday flight from Prestwick.
Will get to see Tuesday's weather on tomorrows 5 day forecast. Hopefully it will be better.

Oh, I am sorry, but I'm afraid that I can't make it this year. Please take me off the list of participants there. I took a nasty tumble off my Ti road bike three weeks ago and broke my hip! I'm hobbling about on crutches now and trying to get some movement back in the joint. Three Ti bolts in my femur now. Next year I'll go, I promise!
Terrible news, really sorry to hear that. Get well soon.

Finally booked my flights, Flying from Prestwick on 28th September and staying in Reggello about 35km NE of Gaiole. In a party of 8 - (6 adults and 2 wee children).
Only 3 of us are riding the event. Not sure about Stephan but Eve and myself will be doing the 135km (training hasn't gone as well as I hoped) and will be wearing a Black/White retro look CTC jersey and white Cinelli hairnet and riding a black 'Henry Burton'
Just got to sort out the ferry to the mainland and get to Glasgow

I've made pinholes from cardboard and modified old cameras. I use the guide seen at the bottom right of this template and then use trial and error to get correct exposure.
This is my latest mod using a Holga 120

As a couple of people on this thread know, I rode from London to Edinburgh last week (we were told that it was 466 miles but turned out to be 475 miles) and went through Yorkshire, cutting through North York Moors. You guys are in riding heaven over there! What a fantastic area to cycle.
Riding heaven? You need to visit the Outer Hebrides ;)

Cheers
Frame is a Team Raleigh, that I raced on 1978-1981 whenI was in the Nottingham based 'VC Europa' .When I left the club and joined Halesowen I had a new Henry Burton frame (built by Henry's original builder Charly Bettley) and used the Raleigh as a second bike having it re-sprayed and rebadged as a Henry Burton some years later and was using it as a fixie. It was last re-sprayed in the late 90s, was starting to look worse for wear so I've had it done again and re-built it with gears for italy
Spec as follows:
Wheels are Dura-Ace hubs with Sputnik rims and Panaracer Pasella 32c tyres
Cinelli Bars/Stem
Campag Nouvo Record gears and brake levers
Shimano Dura Ace Calipers
Pedals are Assos with cinelli clipsTo keep the 'retro' look, I'm using a Selle San Marco Regal saddle with copper rails and rivets and I've converted an FSA Gimondi single to a double giving me 48/38
I'm waiting on a new block and chain as the one on the pic is worn and not running smoothly (6spd 14-24)More pics here (with more to follow):

Bike ready for the ride (almost)
Henry Burton by windy_, on Flickr
The cross tyres were great - rode all the climbs and the 32c section and side nobbles gave confidence on the descents and corners.
