i posted it on the diy thread but have made a printer workbench, just waiting on some ply to arrive tomorrow so i can put the top and shelves on. x1c is going on a rubber tile on top left and theres space under on the left to resurrect my ender s1 pro as it's such a sunken cost at this point it only makes sense to use it as a backup. makes me sick when i think with all the upgrades it cost me more than a p1s with ams. made it 110cm high so i could fit three shelves just tall enough for filament boxes underneath and will use it as a permanent standing desk area for print related stuff. just got two more tiles and the wall mountings to print to cover the other wall with multiboard too.
need to figure out where all my resin printing stuff is gonna go still too. need to punch a hole for ventilation for that so it's a longer term plan for now.

it may not be true anymore but at one point bambu filament would arrive in esun and sunlu shipping boxes if you bought enough of it.
the new bambu cryo grip plate i just got is giving me excellent adhesion and my biqu glacier plate arrived yesterday but I wont be testing it out for a bit yet as i'm ploughing through printing more multiboard stuff and want to stick with what works.

the antenna sockets in my mums block of flats had been disconnected from any kind of aerial a long time ago apparently when i asked the workman about it because she couldn't tune any of the channels when they swapped the broadcast signals around a few years ago in her area. she just makes do with what channels it can find now.
our house has no antenna as there was a rusted sky dish up when we moved in that we binned only to find out we can't get reception on an indoor antenna because apparently most modern windows have a film coating on them these days that block the signal. we just stream and download everything instead.

cobbled together a workbench for my 3d printing area out of leftover studs. thought i might have enough scrap ply to make the top but alas no. had almost exactly the right amount of wood though and ended up with 1 screw left from a box of 100.
will have to wait til i have £80 worth of stuff i need to order from wickes so i dont waste £7 on postage. i don't drive at all but sometimes having a van would be really fucking useful (more expensive than £7 to run though)

ams is definitely worth it if you can afford it.
multi colour printing is very fun, but being able to store multiple filaments at once and swap them based on the print your sending is even better, having it automatically switch to a new spool of the same filament when one runs out is the best. eliminates all guesswork on how much is left on a spool.
a1 vs p1s i'm not sure as i only have the x1c.
don't need to bother with the bambu filament, it's mostly rebadged. the printers will print well with pretty much anything you throw at them.

getting my summerhouse powered and networked up.
if i have a HA instance running on a machine under my stairs indoors whats the easiest way to add a zigbee hub out in the summerhouse that can talk to it so i can put stuff like my smart hygrometer out there? all running on same network.
note i have a conbee 2 usb hub plugged into the back of my HA machine which i want to retain use of for indoor devices.

Many many days of printing and i have my finished multiboard wall ready to go up once the electrician is finished in my workshop tomorrow. Plan is to put it everywhere theres open wall space eventually
I'm using their bolt locking mounts and "permanent" snaps on any load bearing connection to make it as strong as possible. Can also remove each 9x9 tile by unscrewing the bolts on that tile leaving the rest in place so its easy to work with.
Fixed to 12mm ply wall it should be able to hold things no issue.
Gonna take me months to print all the various mounts but with my printer out in the workshop now i'll have power i can run it 24/7

remembered i have a box of outlets and switches sitting around to replace all the awful ones around the house from previous owners.
gf is away a few times in next couple of weeks so will take opportunity to be able to shut power off in the day and get them changed over.
any recommendations for a decent socket tester or is a £10 jobbie gonna be fine?

my mum is a sea swimmer in brighton and her friend very generously bought her one for her birthday last week.
I had to find the most diplomatic way to tell her when it's socially frowned upon to wear one (any time other than going to or from the beach basically) and to expect some stares when she has it on.
she dgaf though.

Somehow the stickiness issue spread to my other plate, swapped in a resin plate i was sent to review and full plate thin walled print is sticking to it perfectly, faultless first layer, no warping.
No idea what is up with the two textured plates though. Been working fine up until now and my printing activity is very low volume.

fitting some downlights in my office today as electrician coming tomorrow to start on the wiring.
realise i dont have the right size hole saw so go buy 76mm one.
first hole cuts well. am cutting them into bottom of ply bulkhead from underside so awkward to hold. second of the 5 holes the holesaw grabs the ply and bucks, fucks my wrist and the drill somersaults out of my hand and avoids smashing the window purely because i added a backsplash panel to stop things falling off the back into the window bay and the drill caught that first. hurt like fuck but managed to get all of the holes done. stupidly i know that holesaws are bad for kickback but it was filed away in a long-term storage part of my brain or else i'd have remembered to not be a twat and run the drill at full rpm.
sharp pain when i move it certain ways along the tendons running from hand to wrist on the pinky finger side. hoping it's only a sprain and not a fracture so will put a brace on it and see how i go.
so glad it was literally the last job before the electrician takes over.

having some adhesion issues with my textured plate and warping so thought i'd give the "dish soap" cleaning advice a go.
now nothing sticks to it at all.
try to search for info on how to remedy, only find results saying how perfectly it works.
luckily i have 2 textured plates so i can leave it for another day. but wtf.

the stuff you'll learn on an older bed slinger are the same reasons why the bambu is so popular because you don't have to do them anymore.
calibrating (and keeping it calibrated) is time consuming, boring and frustrating a lot of the time.
it's only really worth it now if you actively enjoy the constant tinkering which is almost a separate hobby to making things on your 3d printer.

multi colour is nice for putting contrasting text into labels on prints without it going too long esp if you can orient them face down on the plate.
the killer use case for the ams for me is still the autoswap feature when you run out and just being able to store different types of filament and not have to faff changing them in and out.
annoyingly my x1c needs unclogging today as i was trying to print some multiboard tiles for my workshop but they kept lifting off the plate so i recalibrated the filament and got a perfect first layer and then nothing else came out but looked like nothing was wrong so it just kept going like that for about 30 mins. ffs.
sorting an extruder clog is less hassle than it feels, i just didn't want to be dealing with it.

lots of faff and a ton of sawdust everywhere later shelves are done. not the tidiest build but it'll do.
get to unpack the 4 moving boxes of filament i've had getting in my way now and make enough space to move one step further in the eternal sliding puzzle that is organising my workshop.
