Right, I had an ad up looking for a traditional touring frame but plans have since changed and I'll be heading on a bigger adventure than expected along the silk route and to China.
Therefore I've decided a 26" tourer would be more in order for the extra bumps, general remoteness, lack of spare tyres, tubes and all that sort of stuff. In which case if anyone has a high class steel mtb or even better 26" tourer (although that's ambitious I admit) I would be interested in buying. Basically I want braze ons for a rack and mudguard mounts, and a large frame, 21 or 22". I'm willing to pay up to 150ish, over which I figure I may as well go for a new On-one or something like it. I very much like the idea of using a used frame, there are enough bikes out there already for all of us I reckon, which is why I'm inclined towards second hand. Thanks,

More or less decided to go for a 26" now. The plan is to hit up central asia and the silk route next spring and summer with my girlfriend and I reckon I could do with mtb wheels for the bumpy roads and general remoteness. So if anyone has a steel mtb frame or 26" tourer that's decent quality and with a few braze ons I'd be interested. Dunno if I should start a new post to reflect this

Yeah it looks good and I'm going to make an offer I think, although currently I'm going more towards 26'', planning to cycle through eastern europe/ central asia next year. Has anyone had experience of touring with 700c and regretting it? Not sure is the whole ''you can get 26'' wheels in any part of the world'' a bit of hype/ exaggeration or is it justified. I've only toured in nice civilized places til now. The Dawes Sardar or Onedown sounds like a cool 26'' tourer though, I'd go for one of them if I could find it. I'd buy a new one if I could but they don't make a steel version any more. Can't afford a new Thorn Sherpa and I haven't seen a second hand frame for sale.

What length st is it? 56 sounds about right for the tt, but I'll have to confirm that. Plus what year is it from?
Didn't quite get what the solderless nipple was about, you mean as an alternative to ordinary crimps in case your crimps fall off, can't say I've ever had that problem if so.
I'm not going for such a cheap bike, basically want a decent frame and definitely won't be going for 27''s or a wider bb shell, plus I've already a set of canti brakes so I think the bosses are what I'm looking for.

Yeah I'd seen the LHT link there, I'm going to send the guy a msg to check it out.
Germaneddie (assuming this is your bike) are those centrepulls on the Raleigh, couldn't see it too well. I guessed they were but just not sure cos it so happened I was looking today at a Mafac brake setup I hadn't seen before that worked a little like upside down v-brakes and they look similar to centrepulls

I'm going to be selling a 90s Dawes 531st cyclo-x frame soon.
Seat Tube (ctt): 55cm (21.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 52.5cm (20.75in)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C - I managed to squeeze a 38c cyclo-x tyre on the rear, so it should take a normal/non-deep treaded 38c on the rear. The pic is with 25c front and 28c rear to give an idea of clearances.
Seatpost size: 27.2mmIt has a dent filled on the top tube, hence the undercoat spray on the tube. It has braze-on mounts for cantilever or V-brakes. New Stronglight neadle headset.
It doesn't have braze-ons for mudguards or racks, Vaz quoted me £5 per braze-on. So thats about £30.
Looking for £90.
I planned to get the mounts put on and go for a rough looking tourer/cyclo-x. But sadly I can't afford to build it now... I'd love to see it get properly build up.
That'd be good but I'm afear'd it's too small. Thanks anyway

what sort of tourer and what sizing?
i will very likely have an almost immaculate bob jackson world tour frameset for sale very shortly, and a bunch of bits which would work quite well on it (though probably not a whole bike's worth).
What size? I'm looking for around 58cm or larger. Sounds brilliant though and I'd be very interested if it's the right size.

I've noticed a few people mention the c2c forum in relation to touring as a place to pick up a bike. Would that be this one (http://c2c.freeforums.org/)? Doesn't seem to make sense as there seem to have been exactly five ads in the classified section in the last two years. I'm looking for a chariot on which to embark on an adventure and have vainly searched the depths of ebay and this very site.

Hi, looking for a frame suitable for touring, anything steel and with plenty of braze ons and touring geometry, you know what style, Galaxy, Trek 520, Surly LHT etc. By large I mean at least a 58cm, 60cm would be better
On the other hand I'd also be tempted by a 26" wheel tourer if anyone's looking to sell, Thorn Sherpa being the ideal model.
I'll pay good cash money for the right frame in good condition. I want this one to last a good few years.
Thanks.

Anybody ever tried wetsuit gloves?
My hands seem to do okay in the cold so I'm just looking for something to take the edge off the wind chill and keep rain showers at bay and wondered if these might do the job.
There definitely are neoprene cycling gloves, think I've seen them on chain reaction but I don't think they'd be much good in the rain cos the material is basically meant to absorb water even if it keeps you warm when wet, waterproof would be a lot better.
Anyone ever tried Craft cycling gloves? I want to get a filthily warm pair this winter as I ended up wearing two or even three pairs sometimes last year when it was snowing, (here in Dublin)

Amusingly overpriced and poor quality fixies from Ireland, the comments following the first one in particular are enlightening (was originally listed at 450 of our euros)
