Raleigh Team Pro Reynolds 531 Frame with
Shimano 600ex Headset Renovated as Geoffrey ButlerUp for auction is this superb hand built Raleigh Team Professional Reynolds 531 Road Race Frame from the early 1980s. It has been renovated
as a Geoffrey Butler but there is no question that this was originally a Raleigh 531 double butted frame. The very distinctive and elegant lugs,
bottom bracket, brazed-on bottom bracket cable guides and forged Campagnolo ends all tell the same story as does the serial no. WG9000731.
The frame is in excellent condition with only a few cosmetic marks to the paintwork. There are no dents or dings of any sort and the frame is true
and straight. As it stands, the frame is finished in an attractive deep metallic red with the white band on the seat tube. Personally, I think it would be
great to put it back to its1 original Team Tl Raleigh colours as the basis for a brilliant retro build with either a top flight Campag or Shimano groupset
and Mavic wheels!**Specification:

I am restoring my friend's Muddy Fox Courier and covered with RAL 9003 + Metallic Clear. Thanks for all the info about Armourtex. Without you guys know-how we couldn't have done it!
Looks lush. Thinking of doing a frame I just won in a cream with the gold metallic lacquer. Now considering this treatment.

These just came off my bike as I'm changing up the colours on it.They currently have a freewheel sprocket on them but you can get that taken off and a fixed sproket put on. Or if you feel like it leave it on and stick a fixie on the other side so you can switch the wheel around to your liking.
I live in Clapton E5 9RB. So you can collect from here weekends or evenings
I work in Faringdon EC1M. So you can collect from here 9-6ishExtras:

Went with nice black Dixna stem, clean and simple http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=1737.
This stem by the way looks great with BLB's black risers. Made myself a coke can shim, barcode facing out through the stems front gap looks pretty cool actually.Black brake lever and caliper. I got a black sugino cranks for cheap to replace the silver ones and swapped the red charge chain which was already stretching and was noisy as fuck for gold KMC Z510 which now runs smooth as anything.
No gold now other than the wheels and chain. Looking clean and simple but with a little bit of individuality.
Thanks for the advice, probably should have twigged a bit earlier that it was going to look a bitt naff with too much bling. You live you learn.
Onwards and upwards.

Can anyone advise on the liklihood of pantographs/ maker stamps remaining after an armourtex job... just as they're a bit bigger than bb serials. Or a close up photo would be amazing! I had a merckx done elsewhere and they were completely filled, I'd rather retain them this time.
Thankyou! The old frame I had redone revealed a serial stamp that I didn't know was there. Sorry no photos as it is now covered up by the handcuff lock mounted over it.

Disdain may be too strong. Disappointment is probably a better word. I think its the details. The more I look at it the more things bug me about it. My swapping bits out is probably making it worse rather than better but as designer I know thats how I learn to make things. It always looks shittest just before it comes good.
-
Heh,
I've gradually swapped out the shit. Soon all that's left will be the frame. And that will get replaced too eventually. Been a good learning experience though. Guess I had to start somewhere. But yes I now have a strong distain for the charge bikes. I honestly started off with just getting it to commute. Just got more and more fascinated with making it my own and learning how shit works. -
Metallic mustard. Nah just gold.
Anyway cheers for the help. Going to see how the plating enquiries go, how the hope one looks and I'll just lust after the Nitto ones like I do with half of the Nitto stuff I've seen.
Next bike will have no gold anywhere near it. Whatever happens I'm keeping this one as its my first build, even if it ends up hideous as hell, which it will. But shit I've learnt a lot doing it and the refurb I did for the lady friend. -

Does anyone know any shops selling em. No luck on Google. And none of the normal Nitto stores like Hub Jub do em.

Heh actually ordered those as a last resort. They probably are a good fit style wise for the frame. Just not in love with them. Maybe its the personality that counts not the looks.

That all stems back to nostalgia, had a bmx with gold bling as a kid. Have some gold rim deep v's on it now. In hind site the whole gold thing has proved a bit of a headache but I'm one of those people that buys things impulsively, much to my detriment. Also finding the best thing to do is experiment and maybe take a bit of a hit returning things or reselling on ebay.
(sorry ninja edit due to gf bugging me)
