oh, on the whole minimalist footwear thing. as a medic and a lifelong runner i really don't get it. sure, it may feel super for a week or two but, trust me, you'll end up with long term issues unless you're 55 kg and blessed with the biomechanics of a running god.
if you run 5 or 6 days a week, make one of those runs in minimalist shoes. that's all. just enough to remind your feet how they should perform. for the remainder, run in the lightest shoes your body can tolerate but that offer decent impact protection. your joints will thank you in years to come.
change running surfaces on a regular basis; avoid road and concrete whenever you can. eat wisely, hydrate well and don't become a lardarse. stretch. learn how to use a heart rate monitor. run by time/heart rate not by miles. laugh at tossers who use a gps. avoid chiropractors for they are quacks. find a friendly physio for the inevitable niggles. stay away from running clubs and the weird souls who inhabit them and learn to self-motivate. forget races; run for fun and for yourself.
that is all. your complete running 101.

perhaps it's just me and my distance from european civilization with its attendant norms and values, but you all seem to be mighty sensitive over perceived slights, sexual or otherwise. what's wrong with a* 'who gives a fcuk what you yell?'* attitude?
sure, someone endangers your life by trying to mow you down and you have every right to get pissed. but commenting on your tits or package or clothing? c'mon. grow a pair.
the whole 'respect me' attitude in the uk sucks. respect you for what? for being who or what you are? if i think you're fat i'll call you fat. if you think me an asshole for doing so feel free to let me know. if i bothers me i'll try to change, and if it doesn't well, i guess i'm happy that way.
stress about stuff that matters. words will never kill you. 2 tons of metal at 60 kph will.

i've been directed here by your colleagues on glasgow forum. they don't like me one bit.
i've been thrown off two forums now - glasgow fgss and singletrack - allegedly for trolling, though i suspect i'm a piss-poor troll if i am one, 'cos i post under my real name and everything i write about me is sad but true. even my opinions. i just have weird ideas and a snippy manner, that's all. but you can rip me to bits in return, i don't mind :-)
so can i come play here? pretty please?
both forums bitched 'cos i didn't do an intro, so here it is:
i'm ro, male, a doctor working in the private and public sector in viet nam, based in sai gon but travelling around the place at the mo' - for example i'm working up in da nang next week. i have a very old kona which i've converted to ss for use in sai gon where it's fairly flat, and a newer geared kona i sometimes take on trips to da lat and other hilly bits of the central region. but my first love is running i plan to run up the hai van pas just outside da nang next week. and if i can learn how to post pics of said event, post them i will :-)
the trolling bit? oh, ok...
i think fixies are for tossers and tiny handlebars suck.
see? i told you i was a piss-poor troll :-)
what's right about it? why do you need to know precisely where you've run, unless you're some kind of detail freak? there is no training benefit per se. it's just like the changing running short lengths or this years running fad (trail running? minimalist running? do a triathlon?). interesting, in a 'my headache is moving from the left side of my cranium to my right' kinda way, but utterly pointless in a getting fit or staying fit way.
of course, those who've splashed out on the lastest garmin toy are hardly likely to admit it's a useless piece of junk...
