Some dirty thieving scrote nicked my bike from outside the Kenton pub in Hackney on friday night.https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr...a=ltm&t=m&z=18
I ride (or more correctly, rode) a Raleigh Record Ace which I converted to fg and the front wheel was a Mavic Aksium with eight reflective stickers on the rim and the rear was a black 40mm deep rim bought from Varno. Both wheels had Maxxis Detonators.
The reason I'm focussing on the wheels is because I found the bike locked up and I nicked it back!
When I came out of the pub and saw the lamppost where I locked it devoid of my bike, I charged off down the road looking for it. there must have been some kind of subliminal homing signal because I walked past three tower blocks and onto a big estate about 200 metres away, where I found my bike locked outside a tower block, minus the wheels (and, strangely, the water bottle holder).
I've looked for them on ebay and gumtree but without any joy. I'd love to get the wheels back and would appreciate you guys keeping an eye out for anyone selling them.tl:dr

So, if you knew anything about the history of TT bikes, your objection would be a couple of square inches of sticky tape?
I admit that I know bugger all about TT other than that it stands for Top Trumps.
I just think that the shifters would mess up the aerodynamics and the forks look wrong (to my modern eyes). If my only valid objection is the lack of a couple of square inches of sticky tape, so be it.
I do like the front brake behind the fork though. I have wondered why that isn't the standard position for them on all bikes. I've also seen bikes with the rear brake mounted on the chain stay rather than the seat stay and that looks very clean. -

I would have thought that using a blowtorch would make the crank expand (thus making the hole smaller) and make the spindle expand which would make the two even harder to separate.
I would try freezing it so that the hole gets bigger and the spindle smaller.Don't try to hammer it if you do though as the metal will be more brittle.

I'm looking for an alarm chainring lock.
I've looked at the Xena XZZ6 (oversensitive,, weak keys?), Kabrus XL802 (battery muncher) and some of the other disc locks (Oxford and ebay Chinese clones).
I've also looked at the Kabrus XL505 alarmed padlock.
I'm kinda leaning towards the XZZ6, but the key situation is a big negative for me.What is the current recommendation for an alarmed lock?

I am both in London and Hertfordshire.
London Borough of Barnet, County of Hertfordshire.I have a total of about 500 metres of riding fixed, but I am a bottom bracket away from completing my fixie build (damn you, cheap Ofmega crank off fleabay), but when that is sorted, I will (attempt to) head out into the sticks.
Probably sticking near to the train line into Kings Cross because a) Its flatter (I hope) and b) It gives me a bail out option.

I'm going to make a purchase from Varno sometime soon, so its good to know he has a good reputation.
Even if he is 'breaking the rules' (I don't know if he is), the service he provides is a benefit to the site
Grave robbers back in the day, illegally robbed graves and without them, we wouldn't have hot dogs today.

Varno, I'm after a pair of 700c wheels with black rims, black spokes, a black hub, tyres & tubes.
The rear to be fixed/fixed, ideally with 16t and 19t sprockets and having a non-machined braking surface. Can you do the above on a 40mm rim?
What price can you do delivered? Also, do you build the wheels yourself? If you do, can I choose the spoke pattern?
I would pm, but I'm a newbie and all that.
I did a stupid thing and used my cable lock instead of my d-lock.
I didn't know it was a theft hot spot, but I can kind of see why. The Kenton's only external camera faces away from where most of the bikes get locked up, the tower blocks nearby don't have any cameras visible and its not exactly a thoroughfare with lots of foot traffic, lots of tower blocks nearby too so lots of cunts looking to take other people's stuff. The Kenton really should allow people to take their bikes into the beer garden. They've lost me as a customer when I'm on the bike.
I'm still blown away that my bike got nicked and I was able to find it and nick it back, only losing my wheels (which I'm still on the look out for).
Is it worth going to Brick Lane to look for wheels rather than a whole bike?
