I don't think I'll get that 924, he's got my number and email address, hasn't got in touch, hasn't replied to my retro rides PM or my tweet, and since the eBay link was posted the title has changed to include "deposit taken".
Not my deposit.
I thought it was a buyer's market these days but I've shown keen interest to 3 people and it would appear none of them have any desire to sell their car.
I'm leaning towards an S8 that's going but it's in W Yorks.
It does seem the market for the 924 is moving at last. Saw a really sweet Guards Red 924 in Kidderminster. Great condition. Sold very quickly. So they do seem to be in demand.

Shit, the consensus is that the 944 isn't actually a silly want? Peer approval is step 1 down a dangerous road.
For sure...a dangerous road.
A friend fell in love with my 944, and got one for himself. Advertised as £3350, non negotiable from a garage in Oxford. We got it for £2600. Had a couple of small faults which put the fear of God into the salesman, but which took 30 minutes to put right. Baltic Blue and in nice condition. He's had it a year now, and thinks its the best car he has ever had. Absolutely smitten with it.

944s are so underrated. Brilliant cars, especially in turbo guise. Just don't break the rear glass fitting bikes in. It's expensive...
If I was buying a front engine porka, it would be the 968 cs in French blue. Only ever been driven in one but it was a very sweet handling car.Agreed. The 944, either S2 or Turbo, is a brilliant car for hardly any money. I have a 911 Turbo too, which is obviously worth ten times the price of my 944 S2, but pound for pound, the 944 makes me smile more. Handles really nicely, and a sweet engine. I love my 944.
Thats why I want another, as a track car. Surely people will eventually wake up and realise how good they are ? Prices cant stay bargain basement for ever.

Plus points for GTR
- Fast, handles well
- Loads of impressive numbered statistics for boasting to other saddos in the pub
Minus points for GTR
- Hideous
- Too wide
- Having to explain why you sold your Porsche 911 Turbo to buy a fucking Nissan to a potential lover
- General owner perception is of PH twat / compulsive masturbator
- Everyone on trackdays will think you're talentless, no matter how fast you lap
- You could buy an NSX for the same money
Don't underestimate the last point. It might be a fucking Honda but you can just refer to it as 'Ayrton Senna's old car'
Hideous - Yup
Too wide - Yup
Keeping the 911 Turbo. They can prise the keys from my cold dead hands.
Compulsive masturbator - Yup
Track days - Every day is a track day in Wales
NSX - test drove one years ago. Didn't like it. - Fast, handles well

Gtr won't be a patch on 911 turbo. I can keep up with a gtr in my dad's 996 c2.
Plus interior is nowhere near as nice.
What do you want from a car?
Hmmmm. Usually I want brutal power, superb handling and decent build quality. Thats why I gave up on Masarati, Aston Martin and Schnitzer BMW.
I love my 911, despite the fact that its broken. But the apparent brutality of the GTR appeals. Also, I live in the welsh mountains. So AWD useful.

^^
nice choice to have current gtr or r34's ?
new nismo gtr is supposedly the fastest production car around the nurburgring that is obviously the tuned version but i reckon the gtr across country would be as least as quick as a 4wd 911 turboYes, I saw that in EVO magazine. Thats what finally sold it to me.

just had a quick ride in my neighbours 911 turbo 996
10 years old or so but still feels pretty solid and nice inside, full leather ages well
he didn't really get it out of second but golly it pulls in 1st and 2nd
seriously fast motoreven with 4wd you can still feel the front wheels scrabbling for grip once the turbo spools up
i had thought it was an older model and it might have some nice turbo lag but it think this model has twin turbo's so you don't really notice the lag, plus the fact 1st is over so quickly you don't really get a chance to feel for the lag kicking in it's just accelerationThey really are amazing. Its so hard to find the limits of the grip. God knows I have tried. And virtually no turbo lag at all. Response seems instant.
I am waiting to get mine back from SVP in Worcestershire. Clutch failed, and by some million to one chance, it cracked the alloy gearbox housing. So needs a replacement manual gearbox and a clutch. Hopefully be done in the next few weeks. I have really missed that car. :-(
Other than that its been a great car, and very solidly built.
Thinking of possibly a Nissan GTR later in the year. Any opinions ?

Anyone here had a porker 911 (964)? What to look for and what to look out for? Ta :)
I'd say the most important thing is to get one with a FSH. Check for badly repaired crash damage too. Otherwise, all the usual checks you'd do with any used car. They are pretty solid, and as far as I remember with mine, they don't have any particular weaknesses.
