Hello!
I have had a good read of this thread and other bits on the net, but I hope you guys can shed some light on my knee pain.
I can ride my ss for 70 mile plus with no issues whatsoever and consider myself to be in OK shape. I am not new to cycling and regulalry ride long distances without any issue..... on my single speed road bike (stock Langster).
However, after a mere 20 miles on my MTB I get knee pain on the inside of my right knee. When I say inside, i mean on the left side of my right knee, but it is external to my knee, not internal. Just to the left and slightly above the knee cap.
It only hurts when I pedal and only feels a bit stiff when I walk. The pain occurs even in a high gear and pedal at high cadence so I do not feel it is strain related, but I am not an expert.
It started when I cycled to brighton from london on my MTB the week after Mountain Mayhem (MM) (long off-road cycle race) about 3 years ago.
Two things happened at MM and I think one may be the cause of this knee pain.
1 - I changed the SPD pedals on my MTB bike. Same brand and model as before and as those on my SS, but for some reason they seem to have a lot less float.
2 - I crashed at Mountain Mayhem many times (it was very muddy) and one of the crashes twisted my knee quite badly.
I was absolutley fine before MM and the only thing that changed on my bike is the pedals and the suspension forks.
I have just bought some new pedals so hope it will do the trick, but my questions is has anyone else had anything like this i.e. pain on one bike but fine on another?
Thanks!

Thanks Bernard.
About a year ago I got some new Sidi Dominators as my old Specialized shoes had worn out. I had the MTB style cleats fitted by a bike fitter recommended on here (bike whisperer in Acton area??) as I suspected it may be a cleat issue.
The guy said the sidis were different to the specialized so I may need wedges, but as I had no problems with my SS bike I assumed all was fine.
I had the knee problem before and after my new shoes. I wear the same shoes on my MTB and SS.
I guess I will go and see a physio.
Thanks for your help!
