thanks both. I would rate air tightness at 1/10. I’m just trying to get rid of the current extractor which is basically an open hole to the outside, like having a window open. while maintaining ability to extract smoke, food smells etc while cooking. maybe this isn’t the solution. I’ll do some more digging
since I posted before in this thread, we pulled out the fridge and found a massive hole behind which was letting very cold air into the space (again akin to having a window ajar 24/7). we’ve since sealed that up and that’s gone a significant way to eliminating the thermal discomfort issues we were having due to feeling drafts permanently

fuck. this is so incredibly sad and sudden. hayley always seemed so fun and funny and full of life. I loved her builds. hopefully this doesn’t seem trite but I always turn to this poem when someone meaningful passes over. love to all her friends and family. cozxx
Today we friends and strangers meet
because our friend is now complete.
She has left time. Perhaps we feel
we are the ghosts and her the real -
so fixed and constant does she seem,
so starlike. May the human dream
arise again to find her woken
at its heart, though to be spoken
once is as miraculous
as a thousand times. What utters us,
blind nature, told the trees and birds
and bright stars; yet of all the words
we knew, her name was the most dear.
We give thanks she was spoken here -

MK6 GTI main issue is the timing chain tensioner (on pre-2013? models) can fail and grenade your engine. pricey to replace with the upgraded part too, due to labour (8 hrs?) involved. other issues include water pumps failing, standard VW AC issues, thermostat failures, carbon fouling, oil leaks / engine drinks oil, and some others. main one is the timing chain tensioner though. I’ve got a MK6 GTI (with tensioner done) - fun car and pretty comfortable too. upgrade the AV system to the RCD330 and you’re laughing. loves drinking petrol though

what’s the best way of confirming whether there’s a draft or locating a draft behind my kitchen cabinets? I am convinced there is an issue behind our kitchen cabinets. when you open or close a drawer, you feel the cold air. plus the thermal imaging cam shows spots of c.15 degrees at the kickstand (against an average of 18-20 when pointed at the walls or cabinet doors). I have taken the kickstand off and looked but there’s nothing apparent. I have foamed some clear penetrations. there was previously another large hole which I’ve sealed. I’m convinced there must be others I just can’t see because the space is awkward to inspect or they’re covered up by the cabs. do I need to just take the kitchen out and do the job properly? I could rent a keyhole camera maybe

reporting for duty
finished the year 8-10kg down on where I started it. happy with that. don’t want to lose much, if anything, next year. just want to stay disciplined and maybe out on some muscle…
