Hi guys.. I searched but couldn't find much solid information. There were threads like Tool Porn and Best Tools but they were more like a showcase of the best tools you guys use.
I'll be picking up my new OTP fixie this week, so looking to buy extra tools as I have excess left over from my Ride2work scheme.
I already have
Spare inners tubes
Tire removal plastic things
Allen Key set
Adjustable spanner (for pedals?)
Bike Pump**What else do I need and should get at the same time with my new bike?
Tools for general maintenance and basic repairs. Some description as to what the tools actually do would be great help.
If there are other same threads or links please let me know. Thanks!

I'll say it again, Jenjen cares.
Come to think of it, where is Jenjen? Maybe they don't care after all.I'm still around reading up on information about various bikes and components on this forum.
To the guys who helped with your advice thank you very much. To a lot of the other guys with unhelpful and ignorant comments I think you guys are total twats. Obviously I am new to single speed and fixed gear bikes, hence the many questions in what different components are.. which OTP bike is better etc..
Me, my brother and another friend have been interested in buying a fixie. Although we all ride bikes to work we are obviously not that knowledgable about bikes in general, especially fixies.
Some of the advice given has been very sound. Thanks again. After your input we have been going to different lbs's to test different bikes and are able to ask the right questions.
Some of the other comments are dam right rude, ignorant and just no help to anyone what so ever. Not very welcoming for someone totally new to riding fixed gear.

I have the langster aluminium (in monaco paint job), and my mate has the langster steel.
The main difference is the frame, the steel is a lot heavier, but a nicer shape imo. Apart from the obvious differences like the saddle the components are pretty much identical.
The hubs are shit though, you will probably expect to have to replace them at some point, depending on how much you ride it, and in what conditions.
Thanks for the input :)

Can anyone comment on the difference between these two bikes, apart from color scheme and handle bars. The price is about the same.
Which has the better components?
Which would you buy?http://www.evanscycles.com/products-comparison?products=ec019547|ec020012

So the Langster is also a flip/flop. Didn't know that since it there was no indication in the Rear Hub section of its Specs.
Langster has some sound reviews. How does it compare to the Globe Roll 2?
Please can you guys have a look at the below comparison and which one has better components?
Thanks

it just goes to show that when people start these kind of threads, they end up ignoring 90% of the advice and making up their own mind anyway. It happens nearly every time.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
1) Do not get Create/Unipak TOOK ADVICE
2) Draft/create do not buy will cost in long run TOOK ADVICE
Considered FUJI Track
3) As is a track bike ride may be uncomfortable TOOK ADVICE
4) Ride 2 work scheme TOOK ADVICE -
So you started asking about bikes for around £250 for a brother who you weren't sure would use it much and have ended up going for a bike with an RRP of £599 ?
£599 brings in a whole lot of other bike considerations, especially second hand!
£599 because I have decided to go through the Ride2work scheme which I didn't know I could before. 50% off which means what I pay is £250
-
Or you could just go for the langster.
seriously just get your brother to go to Evans, test ride any of the OTP singlespeed and let him decided which to get?
Will test ride but would want a 1st choice to go with
The Langster was one of my choices but it doesn't have a flip flop hub. I checked Evans and specs on their website. Am I correct?

I'd strongly suggest a "wanted" in the classified and see what people have got hanging around. OTP's are good (I have an old plug), but you can get some great deals from people on here if you arn't in a rush.
I'm pretty sure (95% sure) I'll be able to get this on a Ride 2 Work scheme so looking for OTP now. :)

Thanks for the responses. So a definite No No for the Create.
SE Draft Lite £265.50
SE Draft £260
Fuji Track £329.95 + £50 for brakes**Does anyone know the real difference, pros/cons between the Draft and Draft Lite? Apart from the handle bars. WHich has better components? Does the draft have a flip flop hub?
** -
tbf, unipak is probably best value for money if the bike only gets ridden once. otherwise, have a look at the fuji track - long running entry level favourite, I think.
Thanks. I've been looking at the fuji track aswel. A lot of the reviews are sound.
The cheapest I found is for £329.95
**I know this bike is better but Why? what aspect of it is better? please give me a quick rundown so I could learn something. Thanks
Also, they don't come with brakes. How much would this normally set me back plus can you recommend some? thanks.

JenJen...
I know you want a brand fine new shiny bike for your brother,..though to be honest...you are just throwing money away/../.
You can buy a new bike...for £300...which will be as cheap as chips...it will have poor quality components, it will be a poor quality ride..(ie it won't roll) and it just gets worse from there...
you are far far better off...sitting on the forum for a couple of weeks and seeing what it posted here...
second hand bikes that cost an arm and a leg when new...that are going for silly money...
some of the bikes that are coming from the netherlands...really are hard to beat...they are loaded with amazing components, have really strong light frame (made from very good quality tubing)...and are only as much money as you want to spend on yor bike...
and as long as he keeps it in reasonable condition...you will be able to sell it on with out losing a bean..
consider this please...
these bikes are just cheap and will cost you in long run...
where as spending 300 quid on a classic bike...will eventualy cost you nothing...you just keep it for a while and then sell it on...
Thanks Wingedangel for the sound advice.
Can you post a link to a thread to recommend a bike that I look at which is not overly expensive. This will give me something to compare it to and to read whilst I researching online at the moment.
Thanks

To save me from starting a new thread :)
Can you guys help me with the difference between -
SE Draft &
SE Draft LiteI presumed that the Lite version is more of an entry level but the Draft (not lite) version is cheaper.
Most websites say they are the same apart from teh handle bars. But looking at the specs I understand that the Lite has a flip/flop hub and the Draft doesn't. Am I correct?
Thanks guys. I love this website so far

i think these threads ought to be ignored. type "create" into the search and the 2nd thread (first if this one hadn't existed) is all you need to read.
I've read most of the create/unipack thread but tbh I still wasn't sure afterwards.
Some who had owned it said it was decent for its price tag. Others who hadn't owned it said it was rubbish and would injure the rider.
The problem is no one really said what was wrong with it.
Looking at the 2 bikes I would go for the SE Draft Lite but its £100 more expensive. and I would be really annoyed it I spent £100 extra and my brother didn't ride it. He's not an enthusiast, will probably use it 2 or 3 times a week max and probably won't look after it very well.
So.. anything mechanically just really wrong with the Create or Draft?

**SE Racing Draft Lite Single-Speed Bike (2010) £265.50
****Create Single-Speed Track Bike (2009) **£179.99
**
Getting this for my brother who has never had a single speed but I'm not too knowledgable myself. So..
Which is a better bike and why?
What is bad about either bike?
Which one would you get taking into account the almost £100 difference?Thank you all very much for your help.

The last link is very good, thanks.
