A lovely fresh October morning up through Archway, until I got to the top of Highgate hill, when it suddenly got dark. "Aha" I thought, "It's darker on this side of the hill because I'm heading Northwest, and the low winter sun has not yet fully risen over the treetops." Of course, that was complete bollocks, the reason it was dark was a torrential cloudburst that almost knocked me out the saddle and left me looking like I had been hit with a fire hose.

Climbing up Highgate Hill on a very bleary early start, couldn't get in gear, chain jumping all over the shop, I was convinced that my rear derailleur had had it. Glanced down and it looked shredded. Fuming all the way in about cost of replacement, being off the bike for a week at least, etc etc. Got to the office to find the actual problem is a giant clump of wig hair that's stuck in the jockey wheel.

Trundling along the eternally fucked off-road trail section of Hampstead Lane, between Kenwood and Spaniards, I picked up my fourth flat in two weeks. Time to retire the old Corsa G+s, I reckon. On the plus side I had a lovely damp walk through the Swamps (does anyone else know Sandy Heath as the Swamps?)

PLUS On-One Pompino 2012 Cro-Mo Fork, 220mm steererFor sale here is my old Pompino. It's the classic V3 in attractive white paint, with a cool carbon fork on it. This is a reliable workhorse of a bike - it's carried me for a fair few miles around town and never complained. The fork changes the geometry a bit, but I'm including the original so you can run it however you like - fully mudguard'ed commuter, luggage lugger, polo steed, whatever takes your fancy. I wouldn't stretch so far as to call it a modern classic, but if you like rugged bikes (with wishbone seat stays, before they got boring) they ain't making them like this anymore.
Caveat Emptor: This has been a bit of a beater, the wheels could use a bit of truing and the own-brand bottom bracket wants adjustment. This era of Pomps were notorious for soft paint, so there are several chips and scrapes, but the frame is 100% sound with no dents or cracks. The bar tape has seen better days.
Price: £250

For sale here is a brand-new never-used Sram S900 crankset, 53/39 chainrings, 175mm crankarms, 130BCD, for GXP-type bottom brackets. Nice lightweight carbon arms, alloy rings. I'm told by the distributor that S900 is about equivalent to force, a step up from Sram Rival. It was supplied as a warranty replacement after I had already purchased a stopgap, and is now surplus to requirements. Would probably make a nice upgrade from your OTP FSA crank or similar.
As you can see, it's so new I haven't even taken it out of the box to photograph properly. Includes two crankarms, chainrings, pedal washers, bolts, a manual for installation, some rubber bands and plastic to protect the decals, little plastic cup to protect the splines and that nice factory-fresh smell. These go for about £200 new, but I'm only asking the low low price of £175 posted. Dibs followed by PM please.

Today marks my second week back on the bike for my commute, and my fifth day in a row going straight up Highgate West Hill, and it feels damn good
Also feels good: tomorrow I don't have to cycle straight up Highgate West Hill
