Very sadly it would seem that the gentleman hit by a coach last week has died. His name was Francis Golding, he was a prominent planner and architect, and twitter is full of condolences from people who would know him and know this information to be correct.
Rest in peace, Mr Golding.
Can a mod change the title of this thread please?

I stopped at the site about 9.45 this evening. The coach and bike were still in situ, with the riders panniers and their contents all over the road. It was sobering to see and I hope the rider makes a swift recovery.
It looked to me as if the bike was under the front, rather than the side, of the coach and I don't think if us useful to speculate here as to whose actions led to what.

BBC journalist has just confirmed:
@BBCTomEdwards
Met confirm a cyclist has died at Mile End Road on CS2 after collison with HGV. Met were called at 1638
November 5, 2013Also reports on twitter to me of bike, police cordon and tipper truck.
Very, very sad and all too predictable. My thoughts go out to the deceased rider's family and friends.

This is very sad, and the 2nd death around Aldgate this summer following the death of a Boris Biker under a lorry there earlier this year which kicked off the space4cycling protests.
Thoughts and condolences are very much with this lady's family and friends, especially as their pain has been somewhat protracted with her death coming so long after the collision.
Those expressing surprise about being quoted in the Standard; don't be. Over the years the Rider Down threads have often been quoted in the press after a death - be aware of it and be careful of what you write.

It's this Sunday (2013!) and the weather is looking good, touch wood.
As to the phantom velodrome, read the post, come on the ride and find out for yourself.
(Incidentally there's LOADS of disused tracks around London, when doing the research for this ride I was surprised how many have just disappeared over the years. Would have been so easy for Herne Hill to go the same way)

This bank holiday Sunday, 25th August, I'm doing a guided ride from Look Mum No Hands to the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome in Statford, down through east London towards the Thames and past a "phantom velodrome", across the river and on to Herne Hill Velodrome in time for their 2nd Annual Keirin Festival. (And who doesn't love Keirin?)
It's about 18 miles, mostly on quiet roads, cycle routes or through parks and will form a sort of cycling site-seeing tour / history trip / chilled out Sunday scenic bike ride.
All the details are over on my blog here and everyone is welcome. It's a fiver a head, with all the money going to the Herne Hill Velodrome Trust's pavilion appeal. It should be a great ride and you might learn something new along the way.
Hope to see some of you there!
Mark- Start: Look Mum No Hands, 49 Old Street, for an 11AM departure
- Finish: Herne Hill Velodrome Keirin Festival, 104 Burbage Road, Herne Hill, SE24 9HE
- Costs: £5 to take part in the tour, plus bring your Oster Card / Travel Card or cash for the ferry across the Thames (Adult £3.80, Oyster PAYG £3.42, TfL Travelcard holder £2.50 or buy your ticket in advance here)
- What to bring: Plenty of water, snacks, maybe a hat or sunblock, and money to spend at the festival. Shoes for walking in if you wear clips.
- Caveat emptor: There will be no Keirin Festival if it rains, therefore the DROME II DROME tour will also not take place if it is raining. Stay tuned to Twitter for meteorological updates. Riders participate at their own risk.

March 4th 2014 is the date for your diaries apparently...

Social media is an amazing thing. Have seen 1000s of tweets about this today and these informal feeder rides have been set up to guide people to to the protest: [https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=215457415703748621324.0004e18e780f5f28e1874&msa=0

See some of you tonight. -

In.
This needs to be bigger than last Friday's ride; spread the word on your social media channels. Show up.
One of the Mayor's reps last night said we had to "avoid a knee-jerk reaction". By my calculation yesterday's cycle fatality is the 65th since Boris came to power. Am sick of words, it's time for action from the Mayor and TfL.

Will be there tonight.

Following the two cycle deaths in London last week, the London Cycling Campaign have called a protest flashride for this Friday 12.07.13 at 6PM calling on the Mayor to keep to his election promises and act to provide safe space for cycling on dangerous main roads.
Here's the details:
And here's lots of background on the empty words and promises we've been fobbed off with on my blog;
http://ibikelondon.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/deeds-not-words-boris-join-fridays.htmlIt would be great to see lots of forumongers there and adding their voices. The latest death, of a 20 year old French student on a Boris Bike, took place at a junction of the Mayor's so-called "cycle superhighway" which the LCC explicitly warned TfL was not safe or suitable as a cycle route. Further coverage on the BBC is here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-23210035Also, if you can help marshall the ride then please contact Mike C at the LCC as he is looking for extra pairs of helping hands.
Hope to see some of you there to help turn up the pressure on the Mayor and TfL to keep them to their promises and hopefully avoid such needless deaths in the future.
In?

The rider has been named as Phillipine Degerin-Ricard, 20, from France. May she rest in peace and strength to her family.
The LCC have called a flashride on Friday, I'm going to start a seperate post for people to discuss that, organise logistics etc and keep this space clear for people to focus on Ms Degerin-Ricard.
-
Looking at the pictures and chatter on Twitter it would seem this incident took place on the un-seperated section of CS7 on the approach to Southwark Bridge (by the FT offices).
Fingers very firmly crossed for the rider involved and hoping they are okay.
I don't envy the London Air Ambulance crew, I think they do an incredibly difficult job.

Not sure if anyone is interested but all you tourers, global traveler wannabes and armchair travelers - there's a charity screening tomorrow night at 6PM at RichMix Bethnal Green of Janapar - the tale of a cycle tourer who set out to cycle the world, and got married half way round instead. Here's some more info;
