Great to hear you've got your Pinarello back and that hope isn't lost for the Brompton. On match days Arsenal provide guarded and alledgedly secure parking on Drayton Park. There's an unmarked gate that leads to an area in the stadium that is guarded by at least one security guard throughout the match. You don't need to pre-book...they'll let you in if you have a bike. They don't check your identity when coming to collect after the game but at least a security guard is there to stop people popping locks etc...Not perfect but better than most places for bike parking.
thanks for this, I think I may be using this facility from now on!

Lefty
Great news mate, fingers crossed for the Brompton too. On your travels did you get a phone number for the cycle task force? Were the switch board aware who you were talking about when you asked to be connected with them? Are there any useful numbers which we could all stick in our contacts in case (touch wood) we ever need them?
the email above was how we contacted them initially, but I will check if I have a number as well as we spoke on the phone but that might have been from the station. My mate (who had the brompton) had more contact with them initially so I will check with him and post a number if he has one plus anything else we can think might be useful...
By the way, the brompton was apparently sold to someone from winchester in case anyone from that area has come across a very cheap white brompton with an "I am the Stig" sticker on the head tube and knackered mudguards...
-
Brilliant!
Can you tell us what the police did? Did they pretend to want to buy the bike or what? How did they contact him?at the moment I would rather not go into details, suffice to say that we followed the police advice and they ended up apprehending the bloke with the bike shortly after. sorry to be elusive but I may post another update later...
Main point is that this particular branch of the police seem to be a pretty good group to contact for bike related incidents like this

Happy ending for me and my bike!!! fingers crossed for my mate's brompton!
My mate contacted Cycle Task Force today with details of the stolen brompton on gumtree, it also turns out the gumtree guy had my bike as well and within hours I have my bike back and the thief is waiting to be charged by the police. He managed to flog the Brompton but hopefully it can be tracked down now he is in custody.
The task force police I dealt with were really good - acted fast and effectively with none of the dismissive 'its only a bike stuff' I got from the coppers i first reported it to - they were very keen to make sure this guy was charged as well.
Totally made up as I thought this bike a goner, also once again LFGSS forum advice is bang on (Special thanks to Adscan - much appreciated quick advice!!)

could only find an email address; CycleTaskForce@met.police.uk
you could call Police operator who can get a contact number; 0300 123 1212
the cycle task force will help you as that is their role. you should not get fobbed off as if you spoke with your normal copper in the street or station.
thanks! very helpful

pm mazza or email hackneycyclecrimeunit@met.pnn.police.uk
thanks! will do this

I've had a google and the sellers mobile has been associated with a few other shitty looking sales, hope you get the bikes back and that 'Antoney' get's fucked over.
that doesn't surprise me! i hope the cops can sort this one out for my mate.
I can't see my bike up there yet but for reference the frame is virtually identical to this:
http://velospace.org/node/30433
same colour and decals although some have peeled. As previously mentioned dura ace components / mavic open pros with lime green tyres -

ok plot thickens, my mate's brompton has appeared on gumtree:
http://www.gumtree.com/london/12/68084912.html
seller N5 (ie round the corner from where it was nicked) and posted shortly after the game started. My mate has called the police switchboard and they've told him someone will call back within 72 hours, which frankly may mean the bike has been flogged by then.
Any advice on what else can be done!?
sadly no sign of my pinarello... -
shitty. i just passed by there around 4 pm. ill keep my eyes open as thats my home route. maybe it was moved by the stadium or some official because it was locked in the way of something. ask the management.
we locked them up where everyone locks up at that end of the stadium but checked as well with the stewards/police if they might have been moved but no joy, lock was left behind as well. Also cops don't think there will be cctv either...
-
That f***ing SUXXXX. Sorry to be insensitive but how did you lock the bike(s together)? how many locks? What model? Aren't there loads of coppers/stewards around on match day?
Hope you get it back.
we were locked together with a cable lock which was cut, I usually have a much more solid lock but i forgot it at work so bought a cheap cable lock for the weekend and it lasted a day. Having said that there are loads of coppers and stewards so it must have happened under their noses, right at the entrance to the ground by the station, I really didn't expect that. Feel bad for my mate because I brought him along last minute and he couldn't take his brompton into the ground so he locked it to mine.

PINARELLO FOUND!!! BROMPTON STILL OUT THERE...
see later post...Hello all
me and my mate have had our bikes nicked this afternoon outside the emirates stadium in drayton park.
My bike is very distinctive: dark blue lugged steel pinarello 'gavia' with chrome forks and rear stays, rare columbus FRX tubes (with decal on set tube) and full dura ace group (including stem, seatpost and brand new mavic open pros with lime green tyres ). The pinarello decals have partly peeled off - will try and get some pics i have any. This was my pride and joy - totally gutted (compounded by arsenal's capitulation at home!).
For reference the frame is virtually identical to this:
http://velospace.org/node/30433
same colour and decals although some have peeled. My mate's bike is a white brompton with slightly knackered mudguards (will add more details if he finds any).
We have made a police report but if anyone has any advice on where stolen bikes in highbury area might appear again that would be greatly appreciated. Not optimistic but thought I'd try here as people have been v helpful in the past...

Last Tuesday, 25th Sept, a friend got knocked off his bike on Southwark Bridge Road and Great Suffolk Street. about 3.30pm.
He had a flat tyre that morning so was on a Boris Bike, wearing a grey jacket and blue jeans.
He was taken to Kings Hospital and is on the mend but wondering if there was any witnesses to this incident.
Let me know if you saw anything, thanks.
