“ 235 e-bike fires were reported in the UK, over the past two years”
Is this a big number? How does it compare with other causes of fire? Are these all fires or just in houses? How many e-bikes are there in the uk? How many of these were conversions?
I’m sure there are more questions one could ask. It’s very easy to focus on one tradegy and ignore the wider picture.

Too right they are. British local councils just haven't got the balls and are too afraid of the car lobby to do anything too radical. And the last government didn't exactly help. Its too early to say what labour will do but the transport minister's appearance on the Streets Ahead podcast was a hopeful sign that things can change.

I find the track cycling a bit dull as there is no bunch racing in paracycling. However, I am looking forward to seeing the road racing.
I was a volunteer at last year’s worlds in Glasgow. I was assigned to the road paracycling (actually held in Dumfries) and was amazed, and humbled to see some of the most disabled cyclists get on their bikes (and trikes and handcycles) and race, some going so slowly that I’m sure many of us non-disabled cyclists could easily beat them but seeing the effort and determination they put in was just wonderful.

The article quotes that last year 11 died in 179 fires from e-bikes and e-scooters. To put that into perspective, a quick Google suggests that around 100 people die in 100,000 car fires annually (though many of these fires are stolen cars that are deliberately set on fire). So let’s get this into perspective. But I do agree that buying dodgy batteries off Facebook isn’t a great idea.

The relevance of seat tube measurements became less and less meaningful when compact road frames with sloping top tubes came along. When I look at a chart of frame geometry to see what size will fit me, I look at the ‘effective top tube’ length and compare it to my older horizontal top tube frame. I ignore the actual seat tube length.

The tyre release lever works by moving the bolt that holds the brake cable upwards, to move the brake pads away from the rim, like undoing the cable tensioner in one go. In reverse, the cable bolt is moved down, moving the brake pads towards the rim again. I think you have assembled the cam that moves the cable upside down so it does the opposite of what it should.

I'm after a steel MTB frame to make a town/shopping bike.
I would prefer a MTB type frame as I would to put 650B wheels with big tyres (45-50mm) to cope with the cobbles round here (Edinburgh). Also I would like to have disc brakes rather than cantilevers or V-brakes.
Dropouts need to have mudguard and rack mounts.
Steel, because I like steel, but don't mind which type or grade.
Also a rigid steel fork as its going to have a front rack.
Paint condition immaterial as I'm going to have it painted
I'm 5'7" (1.70m) tall, I'm not familiar with MTB sizing but my road frame size is 54cm.
If you have anything like this to sell then please send a message.
Happy to pay for postage to Edinburgh but I can also get my son in London to collect the frame if that is better.
Thank you. -

This Dolan Pre-Cursa was bought in 2019 after I passed my track accreditation at the Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow. It has one been used for drop-in track indoor sessions and has never been raced. Subsequent life changes means I am no longer able to do this so it has to go.
Specifications as follows:
Aluminium frame 52cm seat tube (CTT) and 54cm top tube (CTC).
Components include:
Alpina forks and chainset, 170mm cranks and 50T chainwheel
Selle Italia saddle
Look Leo pedals
Deda bars (38cm) and stem (110mm)
Miche Pistard wheels with 15T sprocket and Vittoria Zaffiro Slick eyes 700c x 23c
There are a few scuffs from normal use but otherwise the bike is in great condition. The current Pre-Cursa would cost £700, not including pedals. Ideal for someone wanting to start track riding at low cost, and not too tall (I'm 170cm - 5'7" and it fits me)
Bike is available for collection in Edinburgh.
I may be prepared to post it but contact me first.
