Thanks for the responses. I'm based in South Africa so was wondering what was available new so I could first see if it's available locally, so won't look at anything 2nd hand for now.

Ironically, after posting this last night I happened on the Deda Dritto, so will see if the local distributor has it. It's an option allthough the Nitto might be preferable.
As for the functionality, I am a keen MTBr so am used to the hand position. Well, sort of...I figured there wouldn't be much difference between 0 and the 3-7 degree MTB bars I've used over the years.
It's for my fixie, so as a result I find drops sans brakehoods to be a much worse option than a straight bar. The drops are too low to spend a lot of time in and the straight part of the bar too narrow.
And personally, I quite like the look of the straight bars.

SIGH....I picked this bike up a few days ago. I wonder whether it's ignorance, stupidity or just not giving a damn that causes a bike to look like this...?
This thing is in bad shape. It was totally neglected nay ABUSED. Actually, the word RAPED is probably accurate.
It's had a terrible repaint. The original paint seems to have been partly scraped off and is still visible under the lumpy, patchy black. Components are all scratched....brakes and gears barely working with play on the hubs(the back wheel was hitting both chainstays yet it's pretty true) and headset. Not sure everything will be salvagable.
I haven't been able to find any logos or stickers anywhere. I cannot find a serial number either and the only stamping is the number '58' which is on the left side of the seattube lug. I assume this refers to the size since it measures 58 c-c.
Both frame and fork ends are Campy so it's gotta be something nice, eh? Unfortunately neither the fork or seatstays are pantographed.
Groupset was a mix:
Campy NR brakes
Normandy HF hubs
Weinmann A129 concave rims
Zeus Criterium crank
Zeus Pista pedals
3ttt stem and bars
Deraillers are Superbe rr and some cheapie Shimano ft.Below some pics of lugs, dropouts, bb cutout etc.
I'm hoping this will help identify it allthough I'm not getting my hopes up.

Got the Carlton ready for the track bought some silk pista tubs,found a nice vintage brooks and some silver looks,the stem although long feels good I would really like a drop stem though and some deeper bars.
Awesome...stumbled on two Carlton track bikes in a shop a while ago. Got them for ZAR800(about 70quid) each. One was identical to yours with the tight geometry and chrome finish, but was too small for me so a friend took it. The larger painted one has the more relaxed and stretched out geo with big clearances. Not ideal but still a beautiful bike and am loving it!

Hey Everyone,
I picked this bike up last weekend. AFAIK the name and paint are not original.
It has a 7-digit serial number stamped on the outside of both dropouts and the tubing is Columbus SLX.
It has what is to me an uncommon looking monostay design. At least, I haven't seen anything like it (granted I am in deepest, darkest Africa). Was hoping this might help identify it?
The sizing is also quite odd....seattube c-c 51cm and c-t 58cm. Toptube c-c is 58. Kind of long and low....I was wondering if it's perhaps built that way just to give a more aggressive position on the bike or perhaps for TT? I'm not very clued up so am just guessing really.
Any help will be much appreciated!

I did a bit of research as I recently bought a Carlton Flyer track frame. Your bike resembles a few models in the 69/70 catalogues I found, but no exact match. I would guess it's thereabout or maybe later.

Have a look at the serial number. There is a dating page(not THAT kind of dating) on the site which provides some info on what the serial numbers mean. That might provide a clue.

BQ - I had similar thoughts regarding the fact that these were high-spec parts so should really be fine for day to day use, Sherrif Starts excepted of course....have heard of them being fragile.
MV - That was one of the things he mentioned, lack of proper sealing on track hubs.

I've always lusted after a variety of classic bike parts. One item in particular is the Campy Pista high flange hubs. Then I spoke to a friend/shop owner who specialises in older bikes/parts and he said that for regular use they're just not durable enough.
He noted that in most cases the parts are old and even if NOS it's still not a good idea to ride them as they'll eventually fall apart.
So, what do you guys think?
I've recently aquired a track bike fitted with what appears to be a late 70s/early 80s Dura Ace high flange rear hub and want to use it on my first fixie build. Is it, or any other component from the 50-70s, a viable option for regular use or are they better suited to just being admired for their history/aesthetics/?

I'm all for that, really I understand. There's being anal and then the extreme opposite is just not giving a shit and either is fine. I hover somwhere around the middle.
However, when the paintjob is this good, then it does deserve SOME respect...maybe that's just me.

Just picked this up today. I have no idea what it is. AFAIK the name/paint is not original. The bike has an incredible paint job. The original Columbus tubing sticker was masked for the repaint and it is so damn neat, you can barely tell. Also, all the lines on the frame and the decals are painted. Just beautiful....just such a pity the previous owner treated it so badly. Huge junks of paint missing all over....what an idiot!
Anyway, the serial number is stamped on both rear dropouts. It's got some interesting details, namely the two seatstays that run into a monostay and then also the extended seattube. The frame measures 51cm from the center of the bb to center of the tt and 58cm center to top.
Any clues on what it might be?

I recently purchased a wheelset with old Campagnolo high flange hubs, 28 hole drilling. The front is laced radially. I know that sherriff stars should not be laced radially but was wondering if these are ok as is?
I don't really want to do a rebuild, but I'd rather do that than have them ripping apart in the future.
