So, i have the same problem and it's driving me mad. Gets worse when you start slowing down too.

I'm running a 1/8th miche track sprocket, sram 1/8th SS chain, and a BrevM 1/8th chainring. Have tried less chain tension, degreased the chain, re-lubed it all to no avail :(

the first number denotes the rim joining technique e.g

717 is a 17mm rim and the 7 denotes it is a welded rim
317 is still a 17mm rim, 3 denotes the rim is pinned or bonded not welded (e.g 117<317<717

XM819 is a 19mm rim, 8 series denotes its tubeless, XM is the range of xc/trail rims

EN/EX 521/321 are more burly all mountain/DH/FR destined rims.

I've ran 717s and 819s previously, laced on hope Pro2s, but have now gone for Stans Crests on hope pro3SP-XC3

i couldn't get used to SPD-SL and similar offerings from look or whatever, but found the speedplays very easy to use initially and have ridden them ever since.

i had to dial lots of the float out of them though, and yeah use cleat covers.

Looks like you'd maybe have to buy a complete rotor in each type as they don't seem to be available as parts but this would give you a set up where you left the mount on each wheel and just changed the same braking surface between the wheels.

they are floating rotors, lightweight aluminium spider riveted to the disc, it's designed to dissipate heat away from the braking surface quicker (aluminium dissipating heat quicker than steel) it's riveted to allow the spider to expand/contract quicker than the braking surface itself.

You would, as stated, have to buy individual rotors.

i have done a few carbon frames now, and they are a LOT of work.

Argos cycles will do it, but expect prices to to be £250+

not true. You can run any caliper you want with centrelock shimano rotors, the rotor thickness is essentially the same across most brands, certainly within 0.25mm.

I'm running maguras on hope rotors as my wheels dictate i have to, and they perform perfectly (and have done for an entire season of endurance XC racing)

Like other have said, you could run a centrelock front, with a 6bolt rear. I'm even sure someone like mavic supply centrelock to 6 bolt converters with their wheels so you can run either.

don't get me wrong, it's no amazing super bike, but for what i wanted it for (chipping around town with minimal fuss) it's perfect.

it actually rides really well. smoother and a lot more comfortable than my carbon/alloy bikes for sure.

the miche ones are terrible material quality. the first one i got was like a wizzards sleeve on the threads, i could only wish i'd been able to over-tighten it!

i originally started riding MTBs a few years ago and then got seeded riding XC as part of my uni teams. Me and a few guys used to train in Scotland every weekend pretty much but these days having moved south we ride swinley/dorking quite a bit. Thinking about doing the forest of Dene in the new year for my birthday ride
