The wheels are in very good condition.
Hubs run smooth and wheel's run true to the eye.
Wheels have had light use on Track and in dry conditions on the road during a TT.
There are some slight surface marks, mainly from how they have been stored at home.
Tried to pick out the most prominent marks in photos. They are all very light on the surface.
Some signs of use around braking surface on the front wheel. Carbon specific brake pads were used.
Tyres were mounted with tape.Vittoria Pave EVO CG Tubular Tyres -Sold

Completed Brevet Cymru 400. It wasnt straight forward but its in the bag.
I fell around 10k trying to avoid a huge pot hole. I landed on my knee and elbow, I carried on riding and the elbow pain subsided but I had knee pain for the remaining 390k.
Weather was good up until around 150k then I got caught in a hail storm down a decent. Not pleasant into the face at high speed. It was so heavy, and the hail so big, that on one of the quiet roads it had settled and was completely white, it looked like it could have been mid january.
From that point it was raining a fair amount of the way. The most torrential of which was through the night. I was drenched for a good 13/14 hours. Riding through the night became more difficult when my dynamo decided not to work so I was left with just my back up cat eye light. Luckily it saw me through.
I got into a good group with two guys over from ireland which helped. We really worked hard and got to the 350k mark before 00:30. We ended up over indulging in the heat and hospitality of the community centre, then got a bit lost and added on some unnecessary miles and didnt finish until 5ish. I was so wet for so long, the final few hours were horrible in truth. My legs were shaking uncontrollably it was so cold on the descents. Some saddle friction was also causing me great discomfort as well to top things off.
I was initially a little dissapointed with finishing outside of 22hrs, but now I think about the conditions and problems I had I cant sniff at being inside the top 20 finishers (Regardless of how much before me some of them may have finished).
I feel ok today, apart from my bruised knee and horrific saddle sores. I did look pretty ridiculous dawdling along at snails pace from paddington whincing and grimicing as I went. Hopefully I will recover quickly, I hate having time off my bike.
3/4 of the way to the SR, if I manage to complete BCM in two weeks it will be 3 months since riding my first audax.

TSK - I intended to ride it as it is a relatively convenient start from near london. However, I arranged to go riding in the peak district with a friend a long time ago so I can not make it.
I think im going to attempt Brevet Cymru and BCM at the start of May. Just looking into the finer details of sleeping arrangements now. Any resonibily priced recommendations in the chepstow area anyone?
-
Where you the guy in blue with a goatee that we lent the allen keys to?
No, not me im afraid. I was wearing black spectacles and riding a black and silver mercian.
It's possible to ride the 2004 route but take any of the scenic options that you want. This is what many people do.
I may adopt that approach and see how I am feeling during the ride.
I am considering riding another 300 before these two in may. Has anyone ridden the Hailsham 300 before? or any other El Supremo events? It starts at 03.00 so the practicalities of getting there sufficiently rested may be an issue.

I rode the Dean, my first 300. I finished in just under 16 hours which I was pretty pleased especially considering I had to make a few adjustments to my bike and lights.
I really enjoyed the ride, nice contrast in scenery all the way round. Really enjoyed the section through the forest of dean (despite the fact that my Honjo mudguard snapped, that will teach me for being un necessarily frivulous). Finishing off the climbs over the downs around sunset was pretty spectacular too.
Looking to the future I think I may try Brevet Cymru 400 and BCM 600 for the SR series.
Does anyone know the different between the BCM Scenic and 2004 routes? The former appears more appealling on the face of it. -
Thanks for the time break down for BRM rides, that is really helpfull I was wondering what the difference was between the various ride classifications.
I just put in my entry for the Dean. I was putting it off because of accomodation and transport, I have yet to decide what Im doing about that but I didnt want it to get in the way and be an excuse for not entering. I would have regretted it because ive been thinking about it a fair bit.
Hopefully ill be able to hold myself together and complete it inside the 20hours. If all goes to plan I may enter the Severn Across at the end of next month. I think I should just take it one step at a time though. PBP would be a nice thing to aim for though, the people I have spoken to that have ridden it have said it is something really special to be part of.

The Dean is a great ride. I'm gutted I'm not doing it again this year.
How many riders does the event usually attract?
I dont drive so it looks like it would have to be the train up on the friday. There is a YHA in oxford which is around £21 a night, most likely need to stay the saturday as well as I dont like the idea of relying on catching the last train. But that does increase the cost quite a bit and there appears to be engineering works on the sunday.

I ride to work, and occassionally go out on vists during the day around (10-15 miles a day). Then two days a week i have a longer commute (30 miles round trip).
I felt pretty spent after my first 100k. Same after doing london-southend/brighton for the first time last year. Ive done a couple in the last month or so now, the second and third time you feel much more comfortable.
Its natural to be glad your reaching the next control/finish I think. You could probably physically have done more but you was mentally prepared for 100.
Pacing is an issue, I tend to naturally try and keep pace with those ahead of me. Ive become more comfortable riding by myself at my own pace for long periods of time as ive gone on.
I found it easier on the 200k as everyone was more evenly paced, however yesturday I ended up concerning myself because I happened to pass a few people. With a 100k you have more people who can ride the full distance at a consistently high pace and you can get sucked along, especially if you lose track of the directions. -
Good to hear you two enjoyed your first Audax. I decide to step it up and completed by first 200k. Got back to HQ at 18.40. Pretty nice ride and lovely day, looked like a pretty good turn out for all the rides judging by the numbers at the hut when I completed the first 100 loop.
I was a bit foolish on the last 50. It was 16.00 at the 150K point and I somehow convinced myself I could make it back for 18.00 and make the 18.19 train. 20k of struggling in headwinds and gradual climbs soon put paid to that delusion. Then I settled back into a more comfortable pace.
Got to see a great sun set going over a plateau after a bit of a climb. But then the tempreature dropped dramatically and the light disappeared and the last 30-40 minutes were a bit difficult for me. Not really used to navigating in the dark on country roads and My lights just about saw me home.
The ride between stations after wards was not really a struggle either. I did a 30 mile round comute today and didnt feel too bad. A Little heavy legged but nothing too bad.
Im seriously considering trying The Dean 300k at the end of the month. Just need to look into the practical issues of getting there and back etc. Plus better lighting I suppose.
SR series in my first year perhaps? I'll see if my early enthusiam lasts. I would like to aim for a 400 by the end of the summer at least so I could have the option of PBP next year.

Pascalo, I had the same neck problems, and plastic rimmed glasses which slipped due to being so old and bent. Opticians can usually heat them and alter the shape slightly which helped me. Most places are usually willing to do it for free. Despite the fact I use them everyday I can just never justify spending the money on new glasses.

Im doing the 100k braziers run this week. So Ive decided to take the plunge and do the 200k on the 6th, posted the application today. Looks like we will all be starting an hour apart which is a bit of a shame.
Be interested to hear how you all get on and perhaps arange a mass entry to an event in the future. Ill be riding geared though, I treat my self too some miles on my nice bike at the weekends.

Did my first Audax a couple of weeks back in the midlands, Rutland and Beyond 106k. Really enjoyed it already signed up for more over the next few weeks. Got the bug already, went on a ride to southend at the weekend to keep my miles up.
Signed up for Braziers Run 100k. Considering doing a slightly longer one at Shaftesbury, Not sure if the leap to 200k will be too much straight away so might try the 150K. Not sure if thats just me being overly cautious.
