10 year bump.
After several years in pieces in the basement growing ever mouldier, I decided to clean up and rebuild my trusty Panasonic with gorgeous Nitto risers given to me a while ago by someone on here and it looks LUSH. Thought the original fans of this bike would appreciate seeing its new incarnation.
IG direct link not working so you'll have to find it on my feed here.
The only problem is that I've lost the chainring bolts and can't find a direct replacement online - will these ones definitely fit? It's a Dura Ace FC-7600 crankset.
Can't wait to get skidding on this thing at @ioreka 's SPFG reunion next month!

I'm glad everyone is paying such close attention to my Instagram stories.
The jacket is the new Tech Collar Jacket (with matching Tech Shorts for the full UPS delivery driver look). All now in the sale if you want to get the look.
The logo is a heat transfer from a customisation thing at a Rapha event in the Dales. Whoever can name the collection the logo is from originally wins a pat on the head.

Wouldn't there have been Lance products pre-Waltons, if that was the case?
The Pantani jersey is more about this than doping.

No more wibbly than usual, but @Greenbank is right I suppose - it's a measured course and the time between start/finish is the time it took. Just gives me an excuse to do another HM to officially break 1:40 now, right?
@Tenderloin I gave them a half-hearted scrub but they still looked gross. Given that I've had them since 2019 they're well overdue retirement, so I should probably get rid of them now. They've had a good run (pun intended)!

It turns out, for me, the best training for the Hackney Half is to completely abandon any kind of structured running two months prior, get cataclysmically wasted the Thursday the week of the race, experience the worst hangover of my life, to feel invincible on the day and smash my PB. It was also the most perfect progression run I've ever done.
Official time was 1:41 but Strava said my HM time was 1:37, since it reckoned I ran 21.8k in 1:41...someone said the extra distance might be because of all the weaving you end up doing between people. Not sure if that's utter crap or has some truth to it?

As a PTJ jacket fan for the same lazy reasons, I've replaced it with the Brevet Infinium Jersey. Insulation on the inside means you can go from no baselayer for warmer commutes all the way to deep winter base layer for minus temps. With the added bonus that if you get caught in a heavy shower it will keep you drier than the OG PTJ.

I have them but I wouldn't say it's less hassle as the top part is quite fitted. If storage AND quick access is important, I really rate my Core Cargo Shorts - cargo pockets, super comfy and I don't miss the bib part for shorter rides. No jazzy colours though.

Yes, it's convenient that they didn't bring up the license issue until a few days after it became a national news story though, right?
This is the crux of the argument, from that article:
"And scientific evidence points to transgender athletes holding a significant advantage over biological females. Sharron Davies, the former swimmer, equates the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sport with doping. The big difference of course is that transgender athletes do not deliberately set out to cheat. They – and women – are let down by insufficient guidelines: scientists say that there are a lot more variables to monitor than just testosterone levels when it comes to advantages or otherwise in strength and endurance."What's not reported as much, but was mentioned in this Cycling Weekly article (https://www.cyclingweekly.com/fitness/i-just-want-to-be-competitive-again-trans-cyclist-emily-bridges-on-preparing-to-race-in-the-female-category), is that the other effects of hormone therapy is that it reduces the red blood cells in the blood which means that even though a person going through transition might retain some physical advantages, they no longer have the energy to power the increased muscle mass/larger frame as efficiently.
The real question is, do those effect reduce the performance to the point that it's equal/fair when competing against other women, which is what is hard to objectively prove or disprove without real racing results or more research specifically into elite trans athletes.

There is no dedicated thread but I think it's worth a discussion. The media storm around Emily this week has been horrendous. I think she has been very brave to come out and transition publicly, and has followed all the rules set by BC and the UCI to become eligible to race in the women's category, but despite this, the idea that she could still have an unfair advantage over the other women means she's not being allowed to race at all, despite doing everything by the book.
We now don't know if she really would win everything by a country mile as claimed by the media, or if her performance would be the same as other women in the competition.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I also found an article which addressed another one of my worries: https://ofdollarsanddata.com/are-we-in-a-melt-up/.
Will keep reading and learning. I spoke to my mum about my plan today and she's supportive so that's always a good thing, right?

After some opinions – I've been putting a few hundred £££ into savings every month, but the interest is a measly 0.01%. Been tinkering with Freetrade for the last month with very small amounts and enjoyed it so far.
Is this a good time to put £500-1k over the next few months into investing in a nice spread of different stocks with the intention of letting them sit there long term? It would be an alternative to savings where hopefully there would be enough gains in the long run to beat inflation (but if I lose some its not a big deal).
But my reluctance is that things look a bit shaky at the moment and I'm wary of there being a big market correction, or various current crises having a big effect. Or is it always like this?
So I suppose my question is: wait for a correction and buy then, or dive in now knowing that in five years time it probably won't matter?

Our office has started to encourage staff to all come in on a specific day of the week to try and get the office buzz back again and let people have internal meetings IRL - it hasn't officially started yet but this Tuesday it seemed like 80% of people were in. It was slightly overwhelming but nice to see people and socialise for the first time in ages.
Lo and behold I got an email from someone I sat adjacent to at lunchtime saying he's tested positive. Being double jabbed I don't need to isolate and I'm wfh the rest of the week anyway, and I'll do a PCR test tomorrow to be sure, but it's still kind of annoying to now feel paranoid about whether I'm starting to feel ill or not.
Can't decide if it means that it's still too early to be doing this kind of thing or if we just have to deal with it. I imagine the majority of the office is double jabbed, so the risk is lower than unvaxxed kids, but clearly there's a lot of covid still around.

Thank you @ioreka for bringing us together!
