2020 event will be on Sunday, February 16th.
There are two routes, a fairly easy 50km and a fairly tough 100km. The rides start from Chalfont St Peter and go almost entirely on minor roads, though the routes have been designed to avoid downhills on poor surface lanes. The cost is £8.00 for advance entry, £10.00 on the day. This includes signage, catering at the start and finish and a certificate for finishers who arrive within their chosen time. You can choose either distance on the day. The 100km starts at 09:30 on the 16th, 50km at 09:45.Full details and online entry at

Still wondering what to do this weekend - I have a few places left on the 3 Down, Runs Near London to just past New Forest (and back of course) Entry at http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/18-417/ with ridedetails and a link to the ride documents

Took some flyers with me to Richmond Park and shamelessly pressed them on cyclists queuing for coffee and cake at the Caff. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of interest shown.
The routes have been checked by fellow club members and small adjustments will be made to the routesheets in the next day or so.
Several people asked me how to get there without a car. Marylebone to Gerrards Cross on Chiltern is the best bet, with Uxbridge, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood Underground alternatives. There does not appear to be any engineering work on the Chiltern Line and I noticed they advertise a £3.00 advance single. Allow 15 minutes from the train to the starting line.

There is 50K ride at 9:45 and a 100K ride at 9:30. The 5oK is fairly benign, the 100K fairly tough. You can make up your mind on the day which to do.
Advance entry is £8, this includes refreshments.
The website at http://www.willesdencyclingclub.co.uk/calendar/reliability-rides/ has full details and a link to online entry.

Hi, Willesden Reliability Organiser here. I have just asked Hippy to change his post listing this year's rides as the details on it were completely incorrect about the Willesden Ride. Just to be clear it's on 19th February, starts from Chalfont St Peter and has a 50K and 100K Route only. Entries Are £8 online and £10 on the day. The 200k looks interesting to me, though it'll end up being closer to 300 by the time I ride out and back:
"200km cycling event starting from Maidenhead. Controls at Shere, Dabbling Duck, Petworth, Hungry Guest and Alton, Cafes Shops Pub, plus 5 information controls.
A new ride for 2014, in memory of Willesden CC's Jack Eason, randonneur of the millenium. It takes in the North Downs, Leith Hill, Blackdown, Hindhead, the Hampshire Downs.
Why 'Struggle' - it's because when people asked Jack how he was getting on in a ride he'd often say 'Strugglin''. While the main climbs are some of the longest in the South East and give a challenge, the rest of the route is reasonably flat and rides through some lovely countryside."Organiser here. There's also a 100K event, 10 Thames Bridges at 0900 same place and date, that I reckon is doable on fixed, even by me, with a couple of short walks on Chiltern Lanes, and a pretty flat 60K ride too. Rutland Weekend 300Km Audax from Baldock, 21 June 07:00
I am running this event again this year. 33 out of 33 respondents to my post ride survey last year said they would recommend the ride to others, so it's exactly the same route
The ride runs from Baldock Station to Rutland and beyond to Bottesford in the Vale of Belvoir and back. It's timed to start on the arrival of early trains from London and Cambridge and there are late trains back to both places.
Commercial controls finishing up with a pub with ale and garden. Mainly flatish and fast but with several switchbacks on the way back giving it a bit of challenge. Well surfaced quiet roads and the likelihood that most riders will finish before it's completely dark.
What's not to like and space available

Willesden CC touring secretary here.
A lady who is registered blind has approached the club as she would like someone to pilot her tandem. Before you ask, I already pilot a blind person which I enjoy, as it’s cycling in company and you get a different perspective on things: I'm sure someone else could find piloting as personally rewarding.
While I am asking around the club, she is based in Ladbroke Grove, which is just outside our catchment zone.
If you are interested please PM me and I will put you in touch with her.

I am running a 300K Audax, the Rutland Weekend, on Saturday July 6th. It's a flattish ride from Baldock - handy train connections to London & Cambridge - up north to the other side of Rutland and back. Very quiet, well surfaced roads compared to what most of us in the South East corner of the UK put up with.See Link for details.

Thanks Greenbank that's very helpful. I've only done calendared events so far and mainly just want to maintain my rhythm i.e. doing a ride every other week or so. Which in some cases will have to be a route of my own making. Might as well make it an event even if it's just me.
If you use a calendared event route that is not a perm, it's a courtesy to let the organiser know you are doing it - and to feedback any comments you have on it.

There's no south east England Audax on the weekend of 22nd/23rd of June but for anyone who wants an Audax fix, a Willesden member, Tony Willard, has organised Audax style charity rides from Oakley, near Basingstoke. Once you get out of 'stoke you're in cracking cycling country. Details are at http://www.willesdencyclingclub.co.uk/tony-willards-breast-cancer-care-ride-22nd-june-2013/

In case anyone else was wondering - apparently I'm not allowed to transfer my place. Seems a bit of a shame; guess it's because they're short on volunteers.
No, they had a waiting list. But according to a post on yacf, entries are now closed for keeps. The way LEL is being organised the work is divvied up between a load of volunteers and this makes communicating late changes really onerous and error-laden.

I was one of the guys handing out the cards at the start. From 7.45 to 8.00 was a bit of a blur as there were so many cards to hand out and questions to answer, but the rest of the time I got a chance to look at the bikes and was suprised at how few fixies I spotted.
It was nice to see a younger crowd on an audax, it's unfair that we old farts generally get the advantage of cracking organised rides at low cost.

When I did some of them a few years back I managed it over the Wrynose but got a banana out just before the bottom of the Hardknott and started scoffing. By the time I realised just how steep it was and started to pay attention I was barely moving. I was soon off.
The other thing I found with the Lakeland passes is they are quite narrow and at weekends busy and with you wobbling all over the place trying to struggle up, you get cut up quite a lot - a couple of times I had to put my feet down and found it impossible to restart.
-
anything else to note re compliance other than mudguards...also wondering whose down for the Groupsave action at the station
I'd suggest taking lights - with the front one bright enough to see the road ahead on. If all goes well you should'n't need them but on a grey day it can be very gloomy by 3pm and quite dark by 4.15 this early in the year.

Just to let anyone contempating PBP know that Willesden CC are running a full qualifying series from places that are easy for London based rider to reach.
The first three events fan out from Chalfont St Peter. Each offers catering at the start and finish and commercial controls.
The Willy Warmer 200K (22 Jan) takes you across the Chilterns and Newbury Downs on a revised route.
The 3Down 300K (2 Apr) runs to the far side of the New Forest. Hilly stretches alternate with long flatter intervals, making this ride suitable for trying a big distance the first time.
On 30th April, the 400K Severn Across takes in the Cotswolds, the Forest of Dean and the spectacular ride across the Severn Bridge before a stretch of night riding.
The Beast from the East 600K(28th May) runs from Waltham Abbey to Taunton and back Refreshments at the start and finish, award winning roadside catering at two stops, sleep facilities and food in Yeovil are all included in the price.
In addition there will be a PBP warmup ride where you can select either 230K or 300K, on 30th July, starting at Baldock.
You can now enter all the qualifiers (2/300 have online entry) via the Audax UK site (non-members - though to do PBP you really need to join - can use http://www.aukweb.net/cal/calsolo.php?Ride=11-435 to access the 600K form).
There will be medals and free entry to the warmup for anyone who successfully completes all four rides.
.
2022's version with 50K and 100K rides + catering is on September 11th with full details at https://willesdencc.co.uk/
