I have this spare wheelset available. Dura ace 7400 hubs laced to Mavic MA40 rims (700c). Breaking surface is good. No inner tubes or tyres accompany this wheelset. Although skewers aren't in the photos, they are included in the sale.

For 7 speed screw on cassette. 126mm width. No longer required for my build as I require an 8 speed wheelset.

Rear hub has twisted 'Dura Ace' text, as seen in the photo.

Looking for £100. Collection only from SE22 any evening this week, or later today....

Tel, i think you're right. it's difficult with a lack of experience, and all opinions are greatly appreciated in order to make an informed decision. i think it's best that i swap them out....

....but isn't there an issue with a potential shift off the cassette? or have i got my facts wrong?

What speed STI shifters - any chance they are 7 speed?

Afternoon folks,

I have a set of second hand 105 8 speed STI shifters. Unfortunately, they don't match up with my wheelset I have for my current build (7 speed), so looking to switch them with someone on here....

They're second hand so have sign of the usual wear. Unfortunately I don't have any cables for them, but these can be easily picked up online.

Preferably switch with a pair of 105's, but if someone has a pair of 600/Ultegra, or even Dura Ace, i'm sure i could add some cash to the equation.

Gents, thank you very much for your comments. they are greatly appreciated. as you will have noticed, no doubt, i'm a complete novice when it comes to the more mechanical bits. I think it may be wise to just use it without using all the 'clicks' until i find a 7 speed STI replacement.

Alas, my rush into picking up a good looking pair of wheels has come to bite me in the ass. I'll keep you updated on the situation. cheers again!

the issue surrounds the fact that the STI shifters are 8 speed. Will these work freely on a 7 speed cassette? Other option is to try and swap them with someone here for 7 speed ones....

I recently bought a pair of MA40 laced to some Dura Ace 7400 hubs. Hubs take a 7 speed cassette (BSC screw on thread according to the previous owner). My existing groupset has 8 speed STI shifters. Would it be possible to just put an 8 speed cassette on the hub? Apparently, it would simply be a case of tweating the derailleur cable to take the 8 speed (as it's a 7 speed derailleur) according to a few websites....I had a look on Sheldon, but it was either too late last night or I couldn't follow what he was saying....

Worst case scenario is I buy a new 8 speed derailleur, but that'll be cheaper than either a new set of wheels or a new set of STI shifters.

If anyone has any knowledge about this, sharing this knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

yeh saw that, but at 400 it's pushing me. i've got a holdsworth 531c professional (frame & half a 105 groupset) sat on the floor but minus STI's, buying a new one is easier than sourcing the missing bits....
