Hello,
my friend is going to cycle to Palestine in mid march and she needs a real nice tourer to get her there. the frame needs to be around 55cm seat tube. looking for steel frame, fairly modern- 90s on, 700c wheels. prepared to do work on it, but £200 budget so ideally don't want to get into replacing parts.
Anyone got anything lying around that you want some cash for?
cheers

I volunteer at a community bicycle workshop at 56a crampton street in elephant and castle. we were donated a Checker Pig frame that the owner didnt know what to do with and none of the volunteers wanted to take it on as a project so i thought i would offer it here. we dont want to set a price, as it will be a lot of work, but if anyone wants to take it on, any money you can offer will go to our workshop.
it has a sealed campag bottom bracket, but the cup has been removed and we dont have a campag remover to take the rest out. it also has the cups from a campag headset but the rest of the headset and forks are missing.
it has holes cut for internal cabling, one of the plastic hole covers is missing.
it also has holes in the down tube for attaching shifters, but the shifter mounts are missing.
it is made from very fine lightweight aluminium 7005 T6 series tubing.
i have photos all ready to go, but cant work out how to put them up, tried insert image but it deleted what i had written. so if anyone can explain, im happy to add photos, or if anyone is interested pm me your email address and il send em over that way.
the frame is now at my workshop in farringdon if anyone wants to come and have a look.
all the best.

get your new cotter pins from these guys-
The London Bicycle Repair Shop
Shop 2-3 Benson House
Hatfields, London, SE1 8DQtheyve always been able to sort me out when im working with that old stuff.
in my experience the pins are too soft to do all that in out in out. i reckon push em in, wack em in good(i use a copper mallet to minimise damage to the pins), tighten up the nuts and hope for the best.
yeah, and double check the pins are going in from opposite sides!

I have a battered raleigh road frame, 531 tubing, with a squashed top tube and drive side drop out. planning on taking it down to my local frame builder to play around with. i was thinking of getting him to replace the drop outs with track ones. does anyone have any experience of this? does it work or is it just weird to have a road bike with track drop outs?
