chainring bolts
I checked these again. Seems I missed one. Last time I probably check 4 of 5 and thought the other must be tight too. It was not. Lesson learnt there. I tightened it best I could with a kitchen knife and an allen key. It was a helluva lot better, but started clicking again after around 3km on up hills. Gonna order a chainring nut wrench today and give a real good tighten :)
Saddle.
Check your wheel bearings. Had a persistent/click creak until I took off the rear wheel and span it whilst holding the axles. Crunchy as hell and would help explain why it happens when you freewheel too.
Before you dismantle your hubs though grease saddle bolts, threads and seatpost. Eliminate the easy things first!
yeah I had the wheel bearing problem like se1derful...
For some reason I was convinced that it was my chain ring bolts.
I replaced chain ring bolts (2 sets), BB, and pedals before realising that it was the rear wheel bearings. The bearings were pitted and causing an awful lot of noise while riding. The fact that it doesn't happen under load (when on the stand) might indicate a bearing problem.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Will grease up the saddle bolts and seatpost tonight. If I still have noises I'll check out the wheel bearings too. I had suspected something up with the rear hub, I went down a sandy cycle track in the wet a few months back and am sure that was not a wise move. I did attempt to get in there once, but could not figure out how. It seemed a sealed unit. It's a "Formula TH 51" that came with the bike.
The BB bolts are insanely tight - I was standing on my BB tool! I was trying to fix a previous creaking sound that I was convinced was the new BB not aligning with the cranks, anyway that turned out to be the old chain. Fixed the grinding from the old BB though. Strange how noises seem to not come from the source, they must be amplified through the frame to some other place.

Well as a rocket surgeon, you would fail. The kite would be launched and forever drift pushed by thermals and differing breezes. Till one day the kite bio degrades and dies with only the spirit of the kite forever drifting in our souls.
Indeed I'm a failed rocket sturgeon.
I'll battle on in the hope one day a kite spirit will enter my soul, free my mind and elevate my knowledge of the cosmos.

Sorry for another "can you help me figure out why my bike clicks when I pedal?" but can anyone help me figure out why my bike clicks when I pedal?
What happens is I get a clickity click (or more a tick tickerty tick) when I pedal (from medium hard and harder). I'm running singlespeed.
I've recently given the bike a bit of an overhaul and eliminated a load of creaks and grinds. Here's what I've done which will hopefully rule out a bunch of usual noise sources.
- Replaced BB - it was grinding and had done a few 1000k
- Stripped and greased the pedals - same as above
- New chain (and it's on tight) - KMC Z510
- New shimano singlespeed freewheel, removing the old dicta
When I put the bike on a stand and pedal I don't hear the noise. One thing is the nut next to the new freewheel is only as tight as I could go by hand, as I didn't have a spanner thin enough to get in there to tighten, could it be that? Happy to buy one if you guys think it'll fix it.
Has anyone any ideas on anything else to check? I've thoroughly gone through Sheldon's clicks and creaks page and couldn't find anything like this.
Cheers

my advice was more for when installing cranks initially. his are probably fwucked.
yeah, you're right. good advice on the tool, i'll get hold of one and fit the replacements properly next time. there were not expensive components though i'm not strapped for cash so is expensive for me to buy twice :( one lives and learns....

Knackers, my left crank fell off.
Again :(
I few months back I put in a new BB and cranks.
At first I did it with no grease but after a while it started to make creaking noises as I pedaled up hill, like a squeaky mattress. So I took em off and lubed them up with a little grease.
This fixed the squeaks, but I think I did not tighten enough. After a few weeks the left side worked itself loose. I tightened it up before it fell off. A week later it worked itself loose again and fell off after a few hundred metres - despite trying to pedal as softly as I could with my left foot. (Funny what you do rather than have to get off and walk the bike home!)
So re-tightened & it got me about 4KM and now it is loose again. I think it is screwed the square hole is starting to get rounded corners - feck...
Anyone know where I can get hold of a single NOS Sugino Max crank?
Lessons learnt
In future I would use a little grease and go for the tighten like fuck approach.
Also, must get and remember to carry a suitable pocket tool for roadside repairs.

You mean Orbea?
Orbea frames are lovely - imho
Ah yes, typo. goddam elephant fingers.
Thanks for the link.
@gav - thanks for the info, I think I'll see if I can take it for a spin, if I fall in love with it then I might offer 650 and see if they go for it. General consensus seems to be it's a nice frame.

There's a sports shop round the corner from me selling a second hand Orea Liege (black / gold).
I think everything is stock - though at 1,999 EUR new it's fairly decent stock!
Mavic Cosmos hubs and rims
Campy Centaur brakes and gears
Alu / carbon frame and forks
ITM spider headset and ITM drop barsLooks in decent nick, no sign of damage. He said it was 5 years old.
The frame seems a good fit for me and it is super light. They are asking 799 EUR for it.
Is this reasonable? Does anyone know anything of these bikes?

Bit unfortunate. Riding on one way street in single file is ok, but swarming like that against incoming white vans?
They'd be wiping them offa the window like bugs.
Here in Brussels this is the norm on every one way street. I actually feel safer going into the traffic than along with it. At least you can see whats coming. As the cars know you are doing this legally they seem to give you good clearance and slow down accordingly.
Fucks with pedestrians heads tho! They seem to jump out like lemmings from behind parked trucks and vans.

Weird thing was all the bikes were stopping at red lights!
Something I rarely do for the other 364 days of the year. I almost felt bad with all those families stopped waiting for the lights to change, didn't stop me tho :D
I hope all the littluns said "Papa, I wanna remove my derailleur n jump red lights like that dick head".

I've got Rubino's front and back. When it's sunny they are very fast and sweet, when it rains I tend to shit myself quite a lot on my daily commute across Brxls. Ordered a couple of Schwalbe Marathons, they look a lot more sensible for the winter. Hopefully, I don't slide under a tram before they arrive.
I got a question, I read that bike tyres don't require treads like car tyres do. So how come my Rubi's feel like I've lubed them up in the wet?

i'd make a point of remembering one of their faces.. just the one and keep an eye open for him. see how hard he is on his own. CNTS!
Mmmm yes, might have worked if I hadn't had so many beers. Ironic thing was that I was doing a lot of Muay Thai at the time and one on one I would most likely have kicked their ass.
@Roxy maybe they suspected you of culinery crimes? deep fried mars bars and the like.
Riding fixed (downhill) is like jogging on the spot on an escalator.
