None of that matters, what matters is learning the point of the revolution of the pedals to engage the skid. There is a point at which skidding is easy as fuck, on virtually any gear, tyre, crank length etc.

I find that point is when I stop peddaling with my back leg, letting it lift my ass out of the saddle then push/pull. I can do it with either foot foward now, took a couple of months to get it down.

I found it a lot easier to skid when I changed from single strap/plastic cages to double strap/metal cages. Much more retention.

My favorite is when a dude at a bbq gets a little too drunk and starts playing with a kid. He tries to do a helicopter style thing, swinging the kid around and manages to smash him into a bookcase. It shows the kid lying on the ground motionless, and everyone is shouting at the guy. He just goes outside and starts crying. End caption: "Its not the drinking, its how we're drinking." Chilling.

I got on my bike today for the first time today since an elbow injury last week and found it hurt my arm to skid (leaning over the bars). I'm glad I have a brake because I didn't realize it would hurt until I was pretty close to colliding with a truck. Nearly fell off and hurt my other elbow.

I may be proved wrong in the next six months but I've a feeling no-one cool is going to be seen dead on one of those.

I agree. As a 21 year old slutty* hipster** living in shoreditch, I am pretty confidant that cool/trendy/hip people won't buy these. They are innately un-cool. I think the only feasible market would be 30 somethings that are attempting coolness. It happens that the only people I have seen riding these fall into that category.

I had a big ol ride the other weak, and nearly got killed twice by two people trying to undertake on the inside. One got such a mouthful of extremities that he just stared at me in disbelief.

I keep getting undertaken by people on mountain bikes wearing gas masks with fluro vests. Its so fucking dangerous, I shouldn't have to check my left. One did it to me in heavy traffic and was so close I nearly lost my balance trying to avoid him. I abused him a bit, then he started trying to run me off the road by pulling up beside me and riding towards me. I just stood my ground until he gave up.

I remember when I first got a bike in London, I had to ride it home from Oxford St. I was so terrified of cycling along all the big main roads on my way home, but as soon as I got on the bike I had a surge of adrenaline and all my fear went away and was replaced by a super awareness that I didn't know I was capable of. I've never been afraid of cycling in London after that first time.

I think that even if you are riding with other people, at some point you will have to take a leap of faith. I think that the sooner you ride down a "scary" road, the better (that is once you are comfortable on your bike). You will feel a lot better once you do.

I might come down. I don't know anyone though so i'll probably sit in a corner and pretend I turned up to watch people doing tricks until i've had enough beer to offend someone.
