Yeah, 3 male teens circling me on bikes and another 10 kids for back up...though it crossed my mind riding into them wasn't really an option...
I did think about giving the police a call but wondered if they just picked me out tonight after they'd cornered me last night, or if anyone else had had the same run in.

Hi all
Has anyone else been harassed by a group of teens on the canal towpath along City Road Basin?
They're on bikes and stop you going past, swearing, being intimidating. I've been stopped 2 nights in a row.
Would be useful to know if anyone else has encountered them and/or done anything about it.
Cheers.

I'm on the hunt for a decent touring bike for mid to long range touring. Something well built and if possible nice to look at. Must be able to attach guards, paniers etc. 58/59cm frame.
I have a budget of between £500-£700. I just missed out on a Croix De Fer on ebay unfortunately.
Happy to pay cash and would like to get something within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks

I did this London to Brighton route on Saturday. Weather was great as was the scenery. The route itself was HELLISH. 6 odd hours.
I was with mates on geared bikes but did bump into a lfgss member on a fixie which was a nice touch

So, I ended up doing this route with a few friends (all on geared) on Saturday. It was an absolute killer but i made it to within 200 metres of the top of the beacon before having to step off. 200m from 120km aint bad though i don't think.

Forumenger en route from London to Brighton, riding SS and trying to keep up with his geared mates. We swapped forum names but if you were as tired as me all available brain power was focused on keeping the pedals turning. Was going to catch you up but realised the shortest route was to go down the stairs and join national cycle route 20. Even avoided the dreaded Beacon.
Hello hello! that was me. Congratulations on making it! Oh boy was I in a state when we crossed paths. I wish we'd seen the sense to take the cycle route, instead though, more hills upon hills. We did about 120km in the end and I didn't manage to avoid the beacon....and didn't beat it either...but came close, but if i walked 200 metres out of 120km i don't think that's so bad. But it sure was good to see a friendly face on a fixie.

Hello,
I originally posted this on the Routes Database thread but fear it might get lost there so have started this new one. Apologies if that goes against any posting etiquette.
Has anyone tackled the London to Brighton route that starts off in Rosslyn Park nr Barnes going through Teddington, Cobham, Dorking, Colgate and then entering Brighton from the North West?
I've some friends doing it on geared bikes on Saturday and would like to join them but i've only got SS so would like to know whether there will be more killer hills (I'm prepared for the hills on the way into Brighton).
Cheers

hey,
Just purchased this bike on egay. Want to make it singlespeed but don't know where the hell to start + i'm an epic Luddite when it comes to making stuff. Anyone got recommendations of bike shops (my lbs are pirates) that take on refurb/conversion jobbies? And also what sort of cost would I be looking at? I'm happy keeping it rough and ready so no need for a paint job.
Ok, so i've given it a go myself. My brother helped me fit a singlespeed back gear with spacers and I've put new wheels on it but i've spent all day trying to fix the brakes and well...it's beyond me.
Can anyone recomend anyone (or a shop) who could do a quick refurb job on this bike to get it road worthy?
Yep early evening not day time. I've been cycling the same route for months and it's only this week it happened. Maybe fluke, maybe avoid canal for the rest of the winter...
