I bought some of these vests after a bunch of my friends wanted them, and seem to have bought too many. Basically, they're bicycle vests, but have an LED light feature (supplied with 2 AA batteries) that blink at variable speed. It's one of the best investments I've ever made in terms of bicycle safety, as I don't have to clip on lights, etc., but just wear the vest. Definitely make a difference in night or even daylight riding.
Selling for 30 pounds each, as I had to pay a mint for shipping and customs.
Let me know if you want them....thanks.

Am getting a bit freaked out by the reports of cyclists getting beaten badly, e.g.:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/ethicallivingblog/2009/aug/17/bike-blog-robberyIf I was in the US, I'd either carry mace, taser, etc., but it seems in the UK that's not quite legal. So was checking out these products - does anyone use any of them, and how effective are they?

Hi guys,
I've put together almost all the components for my fixee bike, and was wondering if I could get help from anyone on the forum with the following two issues:
1) Cutting down the forks (too long right now). Have a hacksaw, but would like to see if anyone has experience.
2) Fitting the chain. Don't know how to do it, and I think you have to have a tool?
Repayment in beer and my undying gratitude...

After my recent experience having my bike stolen (read http://www.londonfgss.com/thread26323.html for the details), am building a new bike and trying to make it as theft-resistant as possible.
I was thinking of doing the following - does anyone have any other hints:
1) Recording the frame number and registering it on http://www.immobilise.com. However, from my previous experience in Brick Lane, most of the thieves file away the frame number - would the ImmobiTag avertised on immobilise.com be worth it?
2) Engraving my phone number on the wheelset and cranks. However, worried that this will hurt the resale value. Anyone have any hints or alternate suggestions?
3) Buying 2 locks. One a Kryptonite U lock for the frame and back wheel, and a chain for the front wheel and frame. Any more lightweight solutions?

you mean bolts like these ?
Does anyone have any, or do I have to go to Halfords? :)

Need to buy the following to complete my project. Can pick up anytime, anywhere.
1) Fully integrated headset (41mm outside diameter)
2) 170mm crankset (size may vary, but has to be Sugino Messenger-compatible). Suginos would obviously work, but so would Sunraces
3) Stem handlebar clamp 26.0 (with shim, 31.8) -

Finishing my project bike Sunday. Need a bunch of parts, especially a wheelset. See below:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25291624@N04/3690824925/
Parts Needed:
Pair of wheels (or rear system x hub)
Front fork bolt for v brake (it's a rear brake that needs to be fitted front)
Seat post clamp
Headset (anyone know the size of the bearings on a pre-cursa?)
Stem 60mm (anyone want to swap for a 120mm?)
Bar tape (first hand please!)
BB crank bolts
Rear system ex hub
Tires (2)Parts promised (thanks, guys):
Outer cable (BENJAM)
Ferral for cable (BENJAM) -
As a continuation of the bike building project here, BenJam and I are going to be holding another bike build Sunday from 11AM-1PM In the basketball court at the corner of Brick Lane and Shacklewell Street. This is open to all bikes, so bring your own project, and we'll help you complete it.
The idea is that each person who's going to come post their bike below, the parts that they need, and people will respond with the part they'll bring to the build. Other than getting rid of your spare parts or finishing your project bike, it's just fun hanging with your fellow bikers.
So please post your bike project below (I'll start), and please respond if you have the part, and can show up to the build.
hopefully we'll have a large turnout. I will ask that the bike project owners edit their posts, rather than starting new posts, to minimize the size of the thread.

CV, you ask, and you shall receive. As you can see, the bike is still not all there, but quite good for the current progress. What I, BenJam, and hopefully mobidog (thanks for showing up!) plan to do is have another build Saturday in Brick Lane . I'll buy the rest of the components needed, and hopefully finish this then.
I'll post the details of the current state of the bike Monday, and hopefully we can get a lot more people to show up to work on their bikes as well - it was really nice this time around!
Thanks for all your help, fellas, and I hope to meet more of you next Saturday...

P.S. Benjam, Mobi, cut'n'pasting the list you sent me about the items I need - tell me if I need anything else (yes, I know about the last entry, Benjam thinks he has a sense of humor):
And if anyone has any of these, please let me know - rather get them from users of the forum than from a bike shop....
Front fork bolt for v brake
Seat post clamp
Gold finger brake
Outer cable
Ferral for cable
Headset
Stem 60mm
Bar tape
BB crank bolts
Rear system ex hub
Tires (2)

Didn't get it from the web site, unfortunately. Can give you a receipt if anyone wants to see costs - but hey - don't have to buy it either....
