I love Ti. my touring bike
Spectrum for light touring by a tanz, on Flickr -
when i was in new york a few years ago.. a guy kindly offered to lend me one of his bikes whilst I was out there. Unfortunately I never managed to meet up with him due to my stupid girlfriend.
The guy was Alan and the bikes I could have chosen from were;
this .
or this.
worst fail of my life..
yes, that would have been a good day for you :)
best,

nuknow - the chain is 1/8" its all track
crispin glover - I hope to be back in London again this summer for some riding! I'll keep you posted.
scorch - the saddle is level - saddles should always be level. the top tube slopes downward.
I have 4 GTs, the Pulse, 2 GTBs and the Team USA. I little overkill, I know - one of the GTBs is on loan to a friend.and to all the pink and red haters - lots of things are pink and red - I love pink and red together!

finally got around to setting up this GT Pulse how I like it. Initially I thought it was going to be too big for me (top tube too long) but I think I got it dialed in. this thing rides SO SO much better than my GTB. its lighter and the aluminum is not as harsh.
full Dura Ace group (the DA wheels are hangin from my ceiling)
Zipp 440 tubulars with an SSP rear hub, campy front hub
pink anodized, then milled Superbe stem with 3ttt crit bars and benotto cellophane wrap
Flite saddle

^^ at those GT/Yamaguchi, could somebody tell me why did they have to build this tall seat tube all the way up to the saddle? super-stiffness? to demonstrate some extra degree of customness?
i wonder what's the size of that frame (now that i know who the owner is... hahaha)its pretty fun to ride and the quality and feel of the steel frame is amazing. one of the smoothest fixed gears i've ridden. I believe the seat tube measures 66cm - my saddle height is about 73cm. the seatpost is only like 10cm! a longer seatpost won't fit due to the seat tube shape becoming aero in section. the top tube is 55cm. its essentially the same type of geo as a lowpro seeing the head tube is the shortest it could possibly be - but instead of cuving the top tube, the builder left it level. one could say the rear of the bike is a bit more stiff due to the shorter seat stays and more aero due to the top tube being out of the wind. every tube on the bike is aero shaped except the TT.
also each one of these yamaguchi frames i've seen has had the seat tube cut to fit the rider. its much like the seat masts you see today on modern frames - except without the integrated saddle rail clamp. -

@ **atanz **- what's the seatpost on the spectrum?
its made by BOLD PRECISION. super light at 112grams and all titanium with an aluminum clamp. my saddle and post weigh less than 250 grams!
I now have a 135gram Selle Italia SLR on there... thats a Flite with Ti rails and no coveralso, its a standard 53/39 rings

thanks Jambon!
Shamals:
good:- tubular, which means lighter tires and better ride
- super aero rim section, even competes with some of the modern stuff out there today
- very stable at high speeds - they'll always try to project you straight ahead
bad: - flexy as hell and I don't even weigh that much. sprinting sucks
- horrible braking, since only 12 spokes the brake power varies between every spoke
- heavy - weighs in at almost 1850 grams w/o tires. Open Pros to Record hubs are like 1650
- tubular, not so great since I had to carry an extra tubular tire, kinda defeats the purpose of a lighter tire/rim combo
that Casati is nuts, how does the post clamp in?
- tubular, which means lighter tires and better ride
