LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
Phew, that was a lot of reading. Glad that there seem a couple of very real options on the table. Mine was going to be to transfer to a fiscal sponsor org that's willing to accept the risk and fight the legislation if necessary.
Regardless of what happens I think we should still organise a big old ride and inc. a bit of a demonstration on Parliament Sq. :)
Big love @Velocio

I was thinking exactly the same @mashton. A big old ride, preferably via Parliament Sq with signs making quite clear what a great community this is, and the consequences of the legislation are. I'm thinking something along the lines of 'CNUTS!'
On the organising side, I'm happy to help lead/marshall/backstop a nice long ride and to contribute in any way to a venue for a bit ol party.

DHB dorica road shoes for somone requiring a bit of bling for the spring.
Size 10.5 (but come up a little large, closer to an 11). Surplus to requirements. Ridden indoor only maybe 2-3 times. Description says carbon sole but the tongue suggests nylon. Plenty stiff but maybe not for racing.
Purchased in that redic sale last year so looking to get what I paid for them £30+postage.

somehow, of the 5000 vehicles imported into europe, two Dodge Rams have ended up in my village of 13 houses...

Thank you all (@Mr_Smyth particularly) for recommendations. I found a pair of trade-in LS50 Metas for £700 at a shop in Chelsea that are winging their way to me, and I've purchased a refurbished amp direct from Sonos for £500 to go with them. I know the Bluesound probably has the better DAC/listen but I like what Sonos are doing and trust their returns/warranty proceses, plus I save a fair amount over a powernode.
So, all in I am at £1,200 and I need to (cringe) buy some cables...
Looking at my local hifi shop in Shrews they have a pair of QED Revalations on sale for £100/2m, but it looks for the same money I can get a pair of terminated, burned-in cables made up by Futureshop. I've little idea what a reasonable amount to spend on cabling is, but i hear 10% of the cost of system is a starting point...
What do we think?
Extra credit: both the amp and the cables come with a returns policy... the other speakers that have caught my eye are the B&W 607 S3 which aestetically are a perfect fit. Any thoughts on those vs. the KEFs?

Fair, I’m not going down the route of a bunch of room treatment but I probably should have said it’s going into the converted attic of a 300 y/o timber framed building with jute and underlay over oak boards. There will be a fair bit of echoing off the pitched ceiling but we’ll see how we get on.
From what I have seen the smaller LSX models probably won’t fill the room, which I want really.

Right I've finally decided to invest in some proper speakers. I've done a bit of thinking and believe that ~1k is a decent price point for used/refurbished bookshelf speakers able to fill my office (a 6x5m space with pitched ceiling).
I'm pretty much decided on a second hand pair of KEF's LS50s, having been around the houses on the LSX ii's which I doubt will fill the room. But I wanted to post here for a final sense check. Here are my needs:
- Must be active, and support AirPlay, but expandable into a modular system
- power appropriate to a 6x5m room that could also do double duty as monitors for production (I use a set of AiAiAi studio 'phones currently)
- Aestetically they need to fit in a minimalist/natural vibe, lots of raw oak, white/black or ink/yellow contrasts.
Thoughts appreciated, looking to buy this month.
PS my neighbour is a professional musician and has successfully convinced me that paying extortionate amounts for speakers these days isn't worth it, as the loss is so often in the recording (did you let the mic warm up for 24 hours before using it etc etc). I won't hear your calls to spend significantly more because you've sold fewer albums than him.

Wow I don’t know how you folks survive as a cyclist in Berlin. I rode into town for the north and from about 20kms out the traffic and infrastructure massively slowed me down. Compared to the week before in Copenhagen it was a bit change. Not a very bike friendly city but plenty of bikes around, keep going!

Me!
Was great to see so many people out and see Evie take the win in the women’s. I was seriously impressed by my mates daughter taking fourth not far behind too!
The women had to race on tougher conditions than then men, really dried out between the two events, which wa a great for me as my second set of wheels on baby Limus’ wouldn’t hold air so grifo it was…
Only my rear wasn’t holding air and n that set either! Two toots on a pump as I dragged myself around, finishing on a flat for ~20th in the vets race.
Very happy with new bike though, having snapped a dropout on ye olde kinesis it’s amazing how much buzz the Boone takes out!

I’m a director of the new non profit that maintains Open Collective, and the largest host in the network (Open Source Collective). JF (who runs Open Collective Europe) is a racing cyclist too and I am sure he would host you. If not Open Source Collective is another option.
Completely up to the group who takes it on. OSC and OCEU work together in a cooperative of sorts.
