don't you have to visit your girlfriend first?
easts is pretty quiet these days. Come to Wests on thursday, or Souths on Monday. Good luck with the riding, looks awesome.
I arrived in london yesterday. it was a really cool experience, not always nice to ride but a good challenge! I'll think about coming to west beers on thursday since I'll be on my way back to cologne on monday. But you are right, I have to ask the lady first.

hi all,
I already posted something about my trip to london in other threads.
www.cgnfixed.blogspot.com
Since the start date comes closer I decided for a new thread.I'm leaving cologne on the 5th of june and plan to arrive in london on the 9th.
I plan to take the National Cycle Route 1 from Dover via Canterbury to London.
Do I need a map additionally or is it foolproof to follow the route signs? Any experience?I already have a map for the route from cologne via roermond, antwerpen, brügge to dunkerque. Any suggestions for hostels, bike shops, pubs in those cities?
When I'm in London I have some spare time to kill since my girlfriend has to study, so maybe someone of you would like to show me around town, places to ride, drink, eat and especially relax...?
Thanks for any suggestions and help.
cheers

My advice , based on my experience as a tourist , would be
If you are not using pannoers -then use a Carradice Super Camper Saddlebag. that's their biggest one
Fit a rack or use one of the Carracdice supports for the saddle bag . Don't just hang it off the saddle. You can can also strap items to the saddle bag, usually stuff like a waterproof. TheA bar bag at the front - Carradice to match- this can be used for maps, valuable etc
Might be worth using a camel back for drinks- if you don't have bottle cages.
Lights- either battery ones or a hub powered dynamo.
Mudguards, full or otherwise
If you are going to take a tent, then you will really need panniers and then perhaps a different bike.
I thought of getting a nelson longflap. whats wrong with just hang a it to the saddle. not enough clearance for legs or does the bag swing?

Battery will die.
GPS struggles to beat 5 hours and if you're using it you want to be able to trace the route.
It's a shame they haven't made dynamo chargers for them really.Maps are better, they survive all the weather and are easier to lay out on bar tables and plan route changes on.
Did anyone use a mobile phone with gps maps, eg. iPhone, G1 or Nokia?
I'm going to cycle from cologne to london and I need a new mobile anyhow. To do some planning, especially to estimate the climbs and descents, check out www.bikemap.net

Did anyone travelled from ramsgate to oostende? I heard that they don't take bikes on the ferry. Is that true? Is there a workaround? Ask truck drivers to take the bike?
I'm going to ride my fixed gear from cologne to london this summer, if you want to follow my trip, visit www.cgnfixed.blogspot.com

no, couldn't make it on wednesday.
I'm back in cologne now, enjoyed the ride to london and the few days in town.
riding in london is really cool, I expected it to be much rougher though
