Amazing how an incident from 1st of May gets airtime now. How long have the police been sitting on this case? And what would have happened without a helmet cam?
There appears to be a silver car behind her; and this guy has started to cross likely without seeing the cyclist. They exchange words. He runs after her.
From experience it's easier to avoid confrontation. There are too many nutters out there waiting to have a go at you.

Happy to hear you avoided a major collision.
Well police report lodged however not hopeful that the police will do anything. They quoted 2 weeks to look at it (if they look at it at all). Also the process for lodging a report is completely manual. You cannot lodge anything online. Hardly surprising many don't file a report.
Not much luck on any CCTV. Local borough and nearby buildings don't have any road facing cameras. Next option is TFL but doubtful they will provide anything as no TFL cameras in the area. And don't think they will supply anything else where I am not featured.
Lesson learned to wear a camera at all times otherwise you have no chance of progressing anything.

Well after years of commuting I finally had my first accident with a car. Driver pulled out and I hit the brakes. Managed to avoid major catastrophe and ended up being very slow contact. Driver decided to keep driving (their car into me) and then drove off.
Luckily pretty minor however annoyed the driver made no effort to stop. I called the police but they didn't sound too interested.

I have got well ridden Ridgeback hybrid (XL size) to sell (for parts or repair). Well serviced but has reached the end of it's useful life. Not sure the current value so open to any offers.
Unfortunately it has a crack by the bottom bracket - therefore it would require repair or bike would only be useful for parts.
Original specs taken from website - I have added a note where components have changed:
Frame: 6061 Double Butted Aluminium Frame
Gears: Shimano Acera front and rear derailleurs 24 speed transmission
Shifters: Shimano ST EF60 EZFire Shifters
Chainset: Shimano Acera chainset with Shimano UN26 Bottom Bracket
Brakes: Shimano Acera V-Brakes ** serviced and changed **
Wheels: Alex ACE-19 box section rims built on Shimano RM60 hubs ** wheels have been replaced **
Tyres: Continental Contact puncture resistant tyres ** original tyres so showing signs of wear however inner tubes were replaced recently **
Handlebar: 6061 alloy low rise bar
Stem: Alloy multi position quick change stem
Saddle: Plush anatomic saddle
Seatpost: Suspension seatpost ** this may need repair/replacement however saddle is in good condition **
Pedals/Extras: Includes pedals with toeclips ** replaced with metal standard pedals **Mudguards are included.
Not included are locks, light mounts.
I can provide photos on request.

After several years of daily commuting my hybrid has cracked it's frame. I'm looking for a suitable replacement around the £500 mark.
Daily commute is on city roads and side streets. Not massive distances but needs to be quick enough to compete with the road traffic and manage the odd pothole.
I am not fussy on brand as long as it doesn't fall apart within the first few months.
Something light'ish with disc brakes and decent tyres would be nice. Needs to suit someone over 6'4".
Any tips or recommendations?
These are the models I am looking at so far.

So I may have spoken a little too soon on this one (!) ...
I was riding home and the front chain set started making a noise - the chain rubbing against the front derailleur. I thought it was linked to the original problem and stopped to adjust the barrel adjuster. This made no different and the noise continued.
As I could still pedal I thought it may need a more technical adjustment and just kept cycling.
Got home and noticed this... a cracked frame! Time for a new bike after 8 years of daily commuting!

How well do you do you know the bike? Did you install the cables too?
I had a "professional" do the work so working on the assumption everything was done properly. Are you suggesting I take a look at the ends of the cable (nearest to the derailleur) to ensure they are correct and not causing tension issues?
Check these?

I am having trouble with my bicycle when shifting from 5 to 6 (front sprocket 3 and rear sprocket 5 to 6).
When shifting from 5 to 6 (low to high) it takes several rotations until the gear actually takes. Essentially pedaling five or six revolutions without the gear engaging. It is not an issue for other combinations or shifting down from 6 to 5 (high to low). I do most of my cycling in 3 (front) and 5 (rear).
I am not sure what to tweak to fix it; or if it needs any new bits?
Chain is newish but when the chain was changed last the old cassettes stayed on.

Hi,
I have a Cateye Tail Light (TL-LD150) that has started working intermittently.
I have tried new batteries etc however believe it may be an issue with the on/off button. Does anyone have any experience repairing these?
When I insert the new batteries the lights turn on and stay on. However once I press the button it stops and turns off.
The button looks similar to the one in this image (although not the exact model):

(This thread isn't an attempt to be provocative. In recent days I have contemplated changing my views on RLJ.)
Given all the debate over red light jumping I am looking for experiences from those who don't jump lights.
I want to hear your experiences - better or worse / pros or cons - when not jumping? Do you feel safer/less stressed/etc?
This is not a thread to discuss the merits of either. It is to describe the cycle journey when obeying this part of the highway code.

Cycling along approaching a narrowing in the road. A motorcycle passes me, followed by a van!
I always feel like I am being a nuisance riding in the middle of the road, however seems like you need to...
Worth reporting?
So reported the incident to Road Safe. No real surprises in the response but guess glad they acknowledge it. I am not going to pursue it further but would report any similar offences.
I thought my camera would have captured the licence plate but it was difficult to make out in the recording. Good habit to read out the licence plate while recording (like others do) to ensure the Met can match it.
Dear ***,
Thank you for providing a link to the footage for your submission to Roadsafe London.
From the footage and further investigation, we have confirmed that the registration number of the panel van is ***** and not '**' as originally thought. All appropriate checks have now been undertaken.
**From the information you have provided, but without further corroboration, police will not be taking any further action however a letter of warning has been issued to the driver and company concerned. ** The letter contains the link to your You Tube footage along with reference to Highway Code Rules relevant to the incident (guidance only, not enforceable), along with the equivalent sections/regulations of Road Traffic enactments (enforceable) and their penalties upon conviction.
We appreciate this may not be the outcome you were hoping for however would ask that this does not deter you from making further reports to Roadsafe London.
Please be advised, Roadsafe London is not an alternative means of reporting road traffic offences or breaches of Highway Code Rules with a view to prosecution.
Kind regards

How defensively are you meant to ride to avoid things like this?

interesting
Study finds hi-viz clothing has no effect on driver passing distancesBased on this small study, it implies that passing distances are minimal (between viz or no viz). Sadly it shows that even when drivers can cyclists, they still don't provide enough space.
From my own perspective I would rather be seen, than not seen. It may make the difference between a driver pulling out in front of you or not.

Do most buy bicycle specific lights or attach torches/similar?
I've seen some cyclist with super bright lights. Thinking just to buy a high powered led torch and strap it onto the front handles?

Does anyone know the estimated numbers on cyclist injuries and near misses? I am thinking that the unreported incidents and non-fatal accidents are as important to talk about than deaths.
Has this number risen? Surely with an increase in cycling in London this would be a pretty high figure. I imagine A & E's are seeing cyclists hobbling in for numerous injuries?
Separately on ASL, I read somewhere that police are reluctant to push ASL infringements because the punishment seems rather harsh. Maybe a review of offences needs review. Unhelpful to have fines/laws that don't fit the crime...

I wanted to know the law on pedestrian crossings. Do cars need to stop for people and cyclists?
I know that cyclists should probably dismount and walk their bicycle across the crossing; and shouldnt be cycling on the footpath. However I know of a few crossings in/by parks that have space for pedestrians and cyclists. Plus also thinking about kids/teenagers who seem to stick to footpaths; and some odd London road/bicycle path hybrid crossings.
From experience some drivers seem to even hestitate stopping for pedestrians let alone cyclists. Just feels some speed up when they see a cyclist crossing.
What's the law of the land?

I have noticed that one of the seals on top of my bicycle head tube is broken. A rubber type seal has split and is hanging on. (I believe it is the dust cover.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bicycle_headset_(threadless)_exploded_view-en.pngWhere can I find a replacement?
I can see entire headsets for sale but not individual components.
How easy are these to replace? I take it you need to dismantle the handlebar to access the headset, and then seperate headset?
What is the consequence of not reparing? I assume I will be exposing the headset to the elements and will damage overtime.
