In order to investigate all the allegations properly and fairly they do have to arrest everyone who is subject to an allegation - ie both cyclists and red transit men. This would be to ensure that neither party can get together and cook up a story.

No, they really, really don't. It's perfectly practicable to take people aside at the time, find out in detail what the allegations are and only then take a decision on arresting anyone. Quite possibly that decision is that everyone needs to calm down and go home and no more action be taken, but "we'll need to nick everyone at the outset" is a red herring intended to save them the bother (and paperwork) of even a cursory investigation.

This is, for the record, horseshit. They're under no obligation whatever to nick anyone, as their actions make very clear. Collar numbers, formal complaint. I have fairly limited faith in the complaints mechanisms, but the one response that absolutely guarantees that this nonsense will continue is not to give them a chance to work.

My suggestion, for what it's worth, would be to buy a nice frame from the classifieds here and build that up. FWIW, a 4mm change in rear spacing is nothing much - a lot of frames will be out a couple of mil either side anyway (ideally symmetrically, but not always).

Good man for backing him up. The fact that the cyclist pushed back is immaterial - he has the right to use reasonable force to defend himself. If he's reading this I'd advise lodging a complaint with the police. Might also be worth contacting the chap who writes The Cycling Silk as he's a) a QC and b) been taking an interest in assaults on cyclists.

They can't pin it on this bastard even though:

(1) He's at the scene of the crime.
(2) He's raging drunk and has OBVIOUSLY just been in a crash.
(3) He has priors for drink driving.
(4) CCTV footage shows the X5 leaving the travellers site 3 minutes before the crash, then just after the crash a load of this guys mates running out (presumably to help remove incriminating evidence from the car.)
(5) He admitted being in the car.

Then they're not really trying. If he has facial injuries his DNA will be all over the driver's airbag (unless his mates removed it, I suppose). A drunk driver (coincidentally a copper) was done in exactly this way up in Tottenham a few years back.

No I get that. But manslaughter's fairly straight forward isn't it. No one is saying that the guy intended to kill the admittedly negligent motorist, but the result of his road rage based attack was that the guy lost his life. It's a shit situation all round but if I punch someone and they die, it's my bad.
