What next? Dunno, probably sort out a few details, ride it for a bit an maybe put it up for sale. I leave the country at the end of the year so given it's pedigree I'd say its worth more to someone here than abroad. Never got wheels built btw, rear hub was toasted so bought separate wheels, both hubs Campag high flange, front to MA2, rear to Gent Champ but.....it turned out to be a 27". Ad stated 700c. It fits but I have to "lower" the wheel in the dropout a tad so it doesn't skim the brake caliper. Considering getting a Velo orange box rim and a repo MA2 sticker laced to another hub. Don't really want to break a decent rear wheel as I'm sure someone will want a good 27".

Just picked this up off fleabay, and getting it ready for Eroica Brittania in June. I know bugger all about Witcombs but it piqued my interest and here we are. It has a bunch of bizarre but cool features and ultimately I'd like to build it up with a period correct high end parts whilst leaving the frame & paintwork alone bar some good cleaning/polishing. Strange stuff it appears to have are; Nervexey fork crown, double drilled lugs, super tight seat stay joints at top, non-integral seat post clamp, semi vertical campag drop outs, chromed stays & fork, BB seems almost tourer-esque low. It has high flange campy record hubs laced to Mavic GP4 tub rims - gonna lace 'em up to TB14's as I just cant deal with tubs. The jury's out on grey ano or polished rims. It's never seen a front dérailleur as far as I can see and obviously needs at the very least a decent rear dérailleur along with chain ring bolts, brakes (galli caliper is bent) and bar tape. Size 59 c/c ST and 58 c/c TT - fits me perfect. Runs a 26.4 post - no details on frame as to tubing but I assume it's some incarnation of 531. If someone is a Witcomb nerd could they kindly inform me of the vintage of this frame as I want to get period correct bits as much as poss. Favours for info can be repaid in beer either in Rainchester or at Eroica.....

I set my bike up for an event this coming sunday (70km ride, not a "race") that should be fast paced being on a closed freeway and almost guaranteed tailwind. Changed to 81gi instead of my usual 68gi. Long story short I was chasing the lads on tuesday night and now my right knee has developed a feeling/pain in the anterior area. (back of knee, not behind knee cap). It is noticable when walking although not painful, and i cruisily rode my geared tourer the 24km to work today spinning to win. Made it in ok without much discomfort but if I push it the pain appears.
I have pretty much given up all hope of keeping a fast pace and realise the best i can expect is to simply go the distance, if I can do it at all.
Am dropping gear ratio back down to either 68 or 72, will drop saddle a little and move forward a little too and see how that goes. Taking multi-vits/minerals and protein supplement.
Any suggestions for how to get some kind of recovery before Sunday?

^^^^^^^What kinda rim is that? I'm currently debating what rims to lace to some Suzue Promax's I recently bought from Japan. TB14's look nice and have the "clinchular" profile on 23's (490g), Open pros are light and are apparently the shizzle (430g), and Velocity A23's are light and apparently super strong (420g). Leaning towards A23's due to lightness. Any one got a set of these built up?

you can and would put whatever you like over the top - timber most likely being a boat. I should add this would be a big undertaking, but can be done section by section which is the only realistic option given Jacqui is living in it. Apart from sorting the mildew issues it will make the boat noticeably warmer and reduce heating costs. Any other Steel sections above the water line will also benefit - in fact the outside air temp may be colder than the water temp at times.
I do not know how these insulations are affected by large quantities of water - i.e. a leak situation.

You have Narrow boat! Great stuff.
This mildew problem is most likely caused by condensation which in turn is caused by the warm air inside your boat coming into contact with a cold steel hull. Running a heater constantly and installing fans will only ever provide a mediocre and band-aid solution to what will be a constant menace. What I am about to suggest would be a long term solution but you need to cover the entire inside of the hull with some kind of insulation and a vapour barrier.
I don't have a boating backgroud but I work in the construction industry and the same problem you have happens in old uninsulated houses with solid brick walls. Infact, the idea of insulation combined with vapour barriers is probably one of the least understood concepts within construction.
On my travels I have found an amazing insulation that is flexible, thin (around 10mm) and outperforms everything else by a factor of better than 5:1 for insulation performance. Link here:
http://www.proctorgroup.com/products/thermal-insulation/spacetherm
It's not cheap compared with other insulations but given you will have a relatively small area to cover the cost wouldn't be too extortionate. It also resists mould growth. Above the insulation layer you need a vapour barrier - basically a plastic sheet fully sealed and taped everywhere to prevent the water vapour suspended in the warm air inside your boat coming into contact with the insulation (which is not air tight) and in turn the hull and condensing on the hulls inner surface and creating a wet zone under the insulation.
If you wanted to try this concept first without spending much cash you could use regular frost blanket - flexible foam sheet used for protecting newly poured concrete in winter from freezing whilst setting - available from most builders merchants. Even using this stuff you will see an immediate improvement.
Pm me if you want.

Any least favourite parts about cycling I may have soon evaporate once I'm actually cycling except the distraction of being wound up by the people I have to work with in the day by their deliberate snide and cliched remarks about cyclists.
I don't bite but I cracked once and told a senior manager ( ha! he's 20 years younger than me ) what he'd just spewed out was deeply offensive/wrong/unfunny . This was around the time of recent cyclist fatality. Nearly got me into a lot of trouble. This 'senior' manager was also the the little shit whose contribution in a get well soon card sent to me at home while I was recovering from a nasty smash was " grow up and get a car".I'm getting wound up again now ...
Is there a 'least favourite part about not cycling' thread ?You can claim workplace harrassment you know. Big company = KACHING!
Do some research, lay some bait and then reeeel them in. Your manager could get end up getting fired.
If not, just blitz a bag of prawns and tip them down his plenum chamber, then casually ask in a week how his car's going. Guarantee he aint even able to get inside it.
Edit Seriously though, there are laws against this kind of behaviour for a reason. What your manager is doing is most definitely classed as being workplace harrassment. I would assume your company would have policies and procedures in place to deal with this kind of thing. Have you looked into this already? Clearly your manager has no idea about such laws or indeed the proper way to treat people in the workplace. Don get mad mate, get even.

but all pretty much sticks then...
Well if people want to rate a particular race on what they have or havent "invented" I think thats pretty ignorant. Australia was a pristine paradise until the "advanced" British came and destroyed it with all their inventions.
These people knew literally everything about their surrounding environment. something todays "advanced" society has largely forgotten in the name of "progress". They knew where to find water in a desert, what plant to eat and not to eat, what medicinal plant does what etc. So much so, to the point that they knew where there is deposits of uranium under the ground before anyone thought to drill in these locations. The Aboriginals won't go anywhere near these places as they believe "bad spirits' live there.
This meme insinuates they are Stupid. Whoever came up with it is an ignoramus of the highest order.
