Hi Folks,
I'm looking to upgrade my Gazzelle from a beautiful Shimano 600 Arabesque groupset to something more modern.
Looking at a Shimano Ultegra groupset, possibly 6500. Is there any out there? i'm not wedded to this but looks like it is a top set that also looks good with a steel frame. Otherwise anything mid 90's onwards, with brake lever shifters, preferably including wheels.
I'm based in London but can travel to collect.
Cheers,
Steve -
For sale, a pair of very high quality 'left bank' north road bars to fit 25.4mm clamp stem with a 22.2mm grip diameter.
Bought these to put on my girlfriends bike but she decided she liked the originals better so I just want back what I paid for them. They are as new, no marks whatsoever.
Save yourself p&p. Pick up from Kensington or Coventry Garden most days or I'm also over London fields a fair bit.
For those not familiar with VO their kit is quality. Super light and very well made.
yours for £25
See them here.

Being an idiot I have managed to lose the nut/bolt combo from my caliper that clamps the brake cable.
I don't have anything from stuff I have that will fit, and even if it does would look out of place.
All I need is the dome headed nut and the bolt with hole in it for the cable to run through. Sounds silly to post an ad for this but I don't know where I would be able to replace these things otherwise.
So either I am lucky and someone has an old caliper that they don't mind losing the nut and bolt, or failing that a whole caliper. either front or back will do as I will probably just swap out the nut/bolt as my calipers are in v.good condition.
It is the old style caliper as seen here:
http://bike-vintage.eu/osc2/catalog/images/DSCF2146.jpg
I'm sure similar nut/bolts from other similar calipers will fit also but the ones I have tried have been two small. Lets see what you have!

A bunch of us road Amsterdam to Paris last year and we rocked a simple tarp rather than a tent.
Slept 5 of us, we were lucky with the weather but the tarp was fine, lightweight and easy to split up, we had poles between two people and one person got the tarp itself, you could do without poles too if you are ray mears.
We also had bivi bags, if you go cheap it will rustle and sweat like anything as the cheapo orange things are non breathable, think we paid about £30 for some ok ones, still pretty foisty.
I didn't bother taking any ground/roll mat which was one one of my biggest regrets, decathlon do thin mats which you can blow up slightly. I made do by finding cardboard boxes where ever we stayed and laying them out tramp style.
It's a good method of camping though, tarps are quick and easy so you can get packed up and off quick in the morning. . .

Tel,
Thanks for the quick answer to my questions, good news thus far, another quick question hopefully so I know the size is in the right ball park as I have little experience with frame measurements - I only know from what I ride what feels comfortable but I can measure against what I have, I just need to know that I am interpreting your measurements right. . .
You specifiy: 57cm ct x 53.5cm cc.
Is that 57cm centre to top length of the seat tube? I.e distance from the centre of the crank to the top of the seat tube where the seat post exits?
And 53cm cenctre to centre, I would normaly have read CC as a seat tube measurement, but I guess you are refering here to TT, centre-to-centre top tube?
If you can confirm that would be great, my questions may seem trivial to those versed in the ways of frame measurements but I don't want to mess you around if its not right fit for me!
Have you ridden this frame in a road set up before? I intend to use this for a trip touring france this summer but I don't know if the short top tube would make it a bit twitchy?
Thanks for your replies to my ramblings. . . Steve

Hi Tel,
I may be interested in this frame and have a couple of questions for you. . .
- Is the frame sized for 27's or 700c wheels?
- Do you know the seatpost diameter?
- Are the brazeons/guides for cables still there and will it run a front mech too?
I have a Carlton road bike with OK campag components but the frame is nothing special, this looks like it might be a nice frame to swap out with but want to make sure it will accept my components, I have a 10 speed set up currently with campag downtube shifters, do you think the bosses on your down tube will fit my shifters?
Thanks, Steve

I built some 27's recently but it took me a bit of searching to find some good condition used 27's, I managed to pick up a good condition wolber super champion from PlasticPedals here on the forum and managed to get a NOS mavic from ebay, both £10 a piece. Just need a bit of patience but they will come along, trying to get a matching set though is a tough ask.
New 27's are available in the UK but they are crap for the most part. single walled and made for cheapo town bikes, best getting good cond second hand. If you fancy paying the postage Sun still make good spec 27's in the US, have a google m13 or something I think is the model.
Failing all that, there is a chap called Graham, based in Archway who is a bit of a legend, wicked workshop full of old bits, worth an ask. . .

As the title says, the stupid sizing of my Carlton frame means i'm having trouble finding a decent replacement post.
Would prefer not to buy a new one as the rest of the bike i've built out of period parts and sticking a Push post on or similar will look a bit poo.
Fluted style al la 'Laprade' of preference, or anything aero. Whatcha got? . .

Hey mig, is it alloy with the normal crome esque finish? and double walled/eyleted such as:
http://velobase.com/ViewSingleComponent.aspx?ID=af623581-edc7-4a96-9009-33837e99cb5a&Enum=107
If so it looks like a good match for my super champion. Could you check it is def 27" and 36h? there is a rim i've got my eye on ending on ebay late this evening but would rather buy from you if poss, so if you get chance to check before tonight I would be gratefull.
If it is then £10 collected is good by me. Thanks, Steve

Spray water.
Slide into place.
Peel off backing paper.Ride.
Jol, looks pretty spanking that, was that spray water onto vinyl stickers to help slide into place and then smooth bubbles etc, rather than meaning water based transfers?
As for lug lining, I did mine yesterday with some model paint/laquer I got from a graphics shop and a 000 paintbrush, went on nice so there was no need for going over the line twice to get solid colour. Steady hand required for sure, and it brought back a few airfix model esque memories but the brush tip is finer than I think you'd get with a pen.
will post some pics when I get chance

Ragingroids, I'm looking for a tenner for the rim
it's like this one
http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3561856/1088832666262_rims_superchampion_27in_36.jpg
I've also got a front Shimano hub and the spokes to go with it if you want, for another fiver
I'm in SW6
Plastic Pedals, spot on - PM on it's way sir.
Any more for any more? . . .
-
Um...my question was kind of meant for ragingroids. ;-)
Cheers for the heads up Soweto888, I've seen the SJS rims but they do seem a bit of a budget option, its not as if i'm after anything really flash, but most of the new 27's available in the UK are single wall, non-eyleted and probs pretty pants.
The only way I can see to get a good quality rim is to get lucky second hand, or to buy some from the likes of harris cyclery.
Looks like I may have found one, now if only another 36h wolber is lurking in someones attic. . .

As the title says really. 90mm reach 3TTT stem for 1inch headset.
I have a 110mm 3TTT aero stem in great nick i'd be happy to swap, or happy to buy outright as i'm short on time. . .
Anything out there?
