I considered buying these but have since reconsidered the prospect as impracticable

As i said...cordura is porous without the coating on the back. you couldn't have the coating on the outer face of a messenger bag as it wouldn't last 5 mins.
How much water wicks through the cordura is dependant on the thickness and integrity of the coating.
A brand new piece of 1000d cordura with a good quality, intact coating on the back does prevent wicking....my point is that that coating breaks down pretty quickly through use on bags and so the cordura starts to let the water through.ah, well, my point was that cordurs is porous With the the coating on the back, straight from day one, tha't s why it isnt marketed as a waterproof material
-
That's cos it's only the coating on the back that adds waterproofing to cordura...once that rubs off it's porous.
Floating liners are the way!sort of, the coating on the back side helps prevent water sluicing through the fabric in volumous amounts but does little to prevent wicking, corduro begins to let water through as soon as the water no longer beads on the face side. Why i dont bother with undercoated fabric for my camping tent, a rain fly with a dwr coating on the face works better. cordoro is much heavier than the nylon for tents but it works in the same way

i'd recommend chicago wig backpacks if you can get hold of one.
had one - sold it to provenrad - too big, chest straps were off my shoulders almost - well made but no tarp liner. he's changed his design in the last few months mind you., not sure what they're like now
?? I don't follow, this "real" messenger bag has no impermeable liner? I suppose Chicago is a very dry environment I have never been there. If it doesn't rain there then it would make sense to use a bag that isn't waterproof to save money

wouldn't that make steering very uneven and heavy? a nice idea, but a bit of a shite one IMO
no, racks on the front change the feel but not the function, putting aside that if you are doing the main part of your steering by turning the bars you'll have issues steering with or without a load on the bars. true tip: Lean further, turn bars less, if at all.

Actually, I did edit (and keep editing) the list, to ensure that the bags named are either
A) Directly described as Messenger Bags, or
B) Can fit a Messenger Bag's design brief.my mistake then, I thought when I read the thread it was for bags a pushbike courier would really use. There are thousands of "messenger bags", you should start your next update soon or you wont ever finish.

I have been pricing and comparing bags for 2 weeks maybe more how I found this site because of GaG2 making that list (thanks) and so far the canadians win, except they are expensive, which I suppose is part of refusing to compromise their designs. I can only afford one of the PAC ultimate bags, not OS because I am only 5'8" and thin, or a under-the-weather with all of the add-ons, or a cocotte with the switchable strap and my logo on the front flap, or the push the envelope with all of the add ons and my logo on the flap.
adding my logo on the front flap of the pac or under weather bag made the price go up another 80 canadian dollars they start to get real expensive....

All these bags are mega gay.
I just bought one of the ultra light marathon packs from innov8 - they look cool and don't move anyway.
As a general rule, we should mimick what bikers do, and thats the kind of thing they use,
Its the way forward.
try one of those in the rain mate, then try to take something out of it without taking it off, then try using it for 10 hours a day in the concrete jungle. Lastly try to use it without looking like a complete douche ;p
Fail, Fail, Fail, Fail lol

They knew that jeans are not the best thing to ride in.. woolie clothes ARE.
You will also be needing either a beret or a fine-toothed comb 'ForTheWind'.
EDIT - I think the 'alpaca jacket' will make a comeback aswell.alpaca is totally back already, visit any yarn or knitting store or try to buy a alpaca sweater for less that 200 :)

head porter messenger ^^ my dream bag
that bag is///...cheap. Bagjack has nice backpacks...adn if you did want thier cheap version messenger bag dont pay $500 for a $100 dollar bag lol lol that site is for japanese buyers that have the $$ to buy without worring about price, a fake status site exactly for paying too much for goods that arent actually that exclusive except that no one else around will have one for better reasons than not having money.
lol a pac bag on that site would probably go for over a thousand easy
