This problem goes away if:
- It is announced that thieves or anyone trying to sell a stolen bike gets hit with a minimum £5000 fine - failure to pay gets given the opportunity to provide some free bicycle maintenance (given their enthusiasm for bikes) or some other pennance.
Cynically, the problem will remain because there is no commitment from any authority to do anything about it
The problem will remain because a whole industry relies upon bikes being stolen i.e. Security (Locks etc), Bikes purchased to replace the ones stolen etc etc
Happy Cycling

I have a Condor branded Neil Pryde bag for sale if anyone is interested. I used it once in 2007, it's been in dry storage since. The baggage handlers for a well known budget airline managed to put a tear in it which needs repairing otherwise the bag is like new and includes 2 wheel bags and a bag for your skewers.I've also lined the bag with a box for added protection. £70 ono. Bag is in Herts approx 40 mins out of Kings Cross. Images follow:
