Reminded me that I have some APC PNS jeans which I need to shift due to middle-aged spread. Tag is 31" but measured is 32-34: 16 across the waistband laid flat, but will comfortably stretch to 17 when pulled as if wearing, and they will stretch with wearing - just not quite to 35.5 as my true waist now is. Inside leg measured is bang on 32". Never adjusted, probably shrunk an inch from new.
Worn for probably a year, hand-washed twice, but been sitting on a shelf unloved for a few years waiting for me to achieve the impossible. Lovely fades, loads of life left.
No idea what to ask but the market will tell me. Start at £40 posted?

I personally will not use a washing machine for denim - or any pure cotton trousers, for that matter - having learned the hard way that those ghastly vertical creases can appear even without a spin. This is especially the case with heavier denim: my N&F Elephants have faint lines down them, presumably just from resting in the bottom of the machine between cycles. Same with some ED-55 chinos, which I think had a cold wash and a slow spin (400rpm).
If you have a bath - or other means by which to wash denim by hand - I highly recommend using it for this purpose. Cold water if you want to minimise shrinkage, hot if you want to encourage it. Drip dry.

Got (IMO) some lovely Trickers Bourton's in the Herring sale. Right shoe fits perfectly: snug but not tight, with just a little of the expected heel rub that is inevitable with this kind of shoe when new.
My left foot is a little less happy: due to a collapsed arch and a bit of over-pronation, I'm getting quite a lot of rub on my small toe. I have off-the-peg full-foot orthotics but they are overkill in these shoes, which have decent arch support in the footbed, so I'm looking for suggestions for just a bit of arch-lift for the left side. Has anyone resolved a similar issue with a particular product?

Having new windows soon and I need to 'prepare the apertures' - cut back plasterwork and window boards to accept the deeper frames. Gonna replace the window boards wholesale with solid oak so that's not a problem. Biggest head-scratcher is the bathroom, which is tiled into the reveals. Will I be able to cleanly cut these back by the required 30mm using something like a Dremel?

Sorry to cross-post from the Home DIY thread but looking for urgent advise.
We have a vented heating system with cold water tank and hot overflow in the loft. The hot water overflow in our loft is overflowing (through the exterior pipe) and the boiler periodically overheats. Plumber says there is a partial blockage and that we need a powerflush.
I have heard much skepticism about this procedure, from it usually being unnecessary to it causing leaks in older pipework. I suggested to the plumber that we might try a chemical clean first but he says this will just pour out of the overflow due to the blockage.
Is there anything we should try before we do this powerflush? Can the chemical be introduced in such a way that it stays in the system for longer before reaching the overflow?
Should add that we are going to be changing almost all the upstairs rads soon so it strikes me we should do this before anything else.
TIA!

Oh please God no.
I'm not sure why I'm so resistant to Sonos but I think it's a combination of snobbery, cost and a belief that it's just so overrated. I have to admit that the soundbar/satellites/sub combo I heard at Richer sounded pretty damned good but the sub is £700!
I think the Yamaha MusicCast multiroom system is a very strong proposition and I want to find a solution within that. Might look at the new Monitor Audio Monitor 50 speakers which look like they are intended for wall-mounting and will murder a pair of Play:1s for less money (cost of amp not included, obvs).

In my never-ending quest to make the best of an odd-shaped room with corner AV unit and L-shaped sofa - and having tried everything from floorstanders to a soundbar and sub - I'm pretty sure the best compromise is a stereo pair mounted two-thirds of the way up the wall opposite the most-used sofa.
So I'm looking for a speaker which will tolerate being in a corner, not far from the walls and ceiling, and ideally not need a sub. Being where they are, the smaller, the better.
What should I look at for my £300 budget?

In Cambridge so either collect here or I may be able to meet or deliver in London in the nearish future.

Ha. Obviously that was coming. That is pretty much the opposite end of the scale of what I'm envisioning.
Thinking about it now, I'm not sure what my question was. So what about:
How much did you spend to convert?
What do the council need to know (if anything; I think this will fall under Permitted Dev Rights)?
If it ends up as a separate address (unlikely), what does that mean in terms of Council Tax? -

Looking for some advice for my situation to achieve the best compromise for this space. We've tinkered at the low end of hifi before - Cambridge Azur, Wharfedale Diamond, various Marantz players. Almost all music now from Spotify but Mrs2wheels would like to retain the ability to play CDs if poss.
Have no real need for surround - would be happy with a modest stereo set-up - but struggling with equipment and placement in this room, so was thinking of the Sonos Beam/pair of Sonos One solution proposed by @mashton up thread - but for both music and telly. Thoughts?
Other option is something like the Yamaha RN803D in that TV unit and some passive speakers, but where would I put them in this arrangement? Have two kids under 6 so wouldn't want a stand to the right of the TV unit. Either side of the fireplace might be possible but they'd be quite close together and v close to the wall.
Another option is an all-in-one jobby from Ruark, Revo, Naim etc - but putting that in the TV unit would murder the sound so it would need to live elsewhere and run a wire to the TV - sub ideal.
Any insights greatly appreciated. Best sound/convenience for my £1k budget.
Is that so! I might well do that if there's no love here.
