I have an 'old' steel frame from 84 that I love, it fits me and works just fine as it is but I'm absolutely fed up of reaching down to shift one of my 12 gears ( Shimano 600 ), especially when riding in a group, so I'm going to buy carbon centaur and some new handbuilt wheels.
Personally it boils down to budget. I have about £800 to spend and for that money I'd rather have the centaur equipped 'old' frame over a low level otp modern racing bike and this also means that down the line, when the funds are there, I can updgrade my 'old' frame to something more modern ( I'd love a stainless Rourke ) and then rebuild the old frame with it's original parts.
I think the debate going on here is pretty pointless and it is all down to your own tastes. I myself love the look of old steel with a modern gruppo... modern materials may well be lighter and stiffer but honestly, am I going to be racing it? No. I just want a bike I am comfortable on over long distances, a bike that suits my abilities and ultimately a bike that I find aesthetically pleasing.
I love this:

FYI. This was/is a friend of mine's. He had it stolen over 12 months ago outside a house party in KH. It was purchased on Sunday from said booter. After it was explained to the vendor that he was 'fencing' he lowered the price considerably, he actually had no idea it was a stolen bike.
The bike will be returned to it's owner this weekend in exactly the same state as it was stolen, bar the extra ding in the TT.
Result I say and those wheels, I'm having 'em!

UPDATE
The "south Birmingham boozer" option is out the window as the only available room was on the first floor, with poor access for bikes and it would be a little less social than I'd have hoped.
**
The actual venueThe spotted dog. Digbeth. He has a projector and the option to screen outdoors BUT he says it may be a little bright for a good picture, if that is the case a plasma TV will be screening indoors also.
Good times.
**Tour de France finale screening.
Sunday 24th July

I'm still waiting on confirmation but it looks likely... and it'll be at the Bulls Head.
I'v also asked about the possibility of being able to bring bikes through to the back yard for peace of mind for everyone.I'v put the feeleres out on FB already so if this does go ahead could everyone please tell all their cycling brethren? Ta.

The Tour de France grand finale takes place this Sunday - 24th July between 1.30pm and 4.30pm and I thought it would be great if people could watch it together on a big screen.
I have enquired and I have a potential venue for such an event. It is a boozer in the heart of England ( Moseley ) but before I give the boss the double thumbs up I'd like to see who would be up for it.
If no one's interested I'll just sit at home and watch it there.
Leave your name if you fancy it.
I'll start.Gavin.

Wanted!
As the title suggests, a Dolan pre cursa or track champ in either a size 54 or 56... 54 preferred but could get away with a 56 with a shorter stem perhaps.
Matt black preferred.
I'll also consider any other alu track frame if anyone has any going.
I'll also need it posting as I'm not in London, could meet maybe though depending on where you are.
Anyone?
Thanks.

I ride sans brake and I crashed once and smashed my face up... no biggy, I'm fucking solid.
I'm pretty much a twat but I'll be quite honest and say I personally think a track bike should look like one... plus thousands of people have been riding brakeless bikes in cities all over the world decades before 'Fixie skidders' got popular and a long, long time before I even knew what the fuck I was talking about.
The crux is this:
Ride without a brake if you want to but it is stupid - it is however YOUR choice. One more thing - Brakes DO make you faster, no question. But I ride for fun and not to race... If I ride with people who are using a brake I'll let them go because I'd rather live and keep my exceptionally handsome face intact.
That is all.

ATTENTION!!!
I've just set up the Nimble website (finally) and we're trying to decide a day to have the bike jumble every month as we'll start to invite shops/distributors when it moves to our permanent location. Did a Sunday work well or maybe the last Friday of the month before Beers? I'd like it to be a regular calendar event so every 'insert day here' but I want it to be a day everyone can make! Let me know PLEASE...
**SUNDAY **please. Perfect day for a rummage me thinks.
