New chains are sprayed with some crap anti-rust stuff. This is Not a lubricant. Clean the chain and apply a decent chain lube. I like the finish line wet one. but during the winter salty water seized the chain overnight so i drown it in 3 in 1 oil. messy but it worked. kept applying it every time the chain didn't look wet.

The thread is metric fine 10mm x 1mm pitch (distance the nut moves per turn).
10mm threads also come in 1.25mm and 1.5mm pitches. which are the sizes if you buy from ironmongers or nick from a factory.

I have fitted a surly chainwheel to a BREV M crank. The chain has a tight spot which moved when I turned it round to the next spider. I'm pretty sure the things eccentric. what can I do please?

Hello There, I've been using continental sport contact 700 x 28C. for a couple of years. they're fairly light, 1 puncture and the roads are like a ploughed field in places. tug nuts are necessary for pratting about. mine are quite thin, NKS ones from HUBJUB. hope this helps.

Plumbers tip.
wrap a strip of paper around the tube two turns ensuring the edges overlap each other and mark the tube along the edge with a fine marker pen. the line thus marked will be square to the end.

practice marking and cutting on a waste area of the tube, especially if using a junior hacksaw as these little bastards will cut off.

left hand thread means it screws on when turned anti clockwise. it will not go on normal hubs because they screw on clockwise / right hand thread. the only reason For BMX hubs doing this would be so the chain wheel (crank cog) would be on the left side of the bike. a fashion statement surely.
