Yep. Nothing can beat getting in the miles. More fun often to join a local road club to train with over the winter. Track events tend to not last much more than 30 minutes so you can train quite effectively for events like these by riding at a high tempo for an hour, 2-3 times a week which is good over the winter as its too cold to be out longer than this. One big long ride every week isn't really an effective way to train as it can be quite a strain on the body and metabolism. Good luck and enjoy

Hello Winston. This is excellent news that the polo bikes are being restored. I used to play on these bikes years ago at HH as a youngster. Happy to lend a hand restoring and work in a bike shop so have access to strange stuff to fix them up. Be the wheels knackered? They have a lot of spoked in them and most will probably need rebuilding. One guy tried using 36h MTB rims but the ball kept getting stuck in them and plain gauge spokes weren't thick enough. DT Alpine would be best bet. This was the trickiest part of fixing them we found. How is it going so far?

One thing that is useful to do is if you take a close look at a worn chainring (indicated by the teeth profile tending towards a point) you notice that the wear only happens over a section at 90 degrees to the crank arms due to where the power stroke is applied. It is possible to rotate the chainring though 90 degrees AND replace the chain which can save getting a new chianring each time

Take it to a decent bike shop and let them have a go. They have secret techniques handed down through a lineage of shaolin monks and other layabouts. PlusGas is very effectivel. Something that motor mechanics have used for years. Then a big bar and a big bear, and even a big beer. Also bolt the tool into the BB with a crank bolt to stop it slipping when you put lots of torque on it. Good luck
