We got done in California, a place called the Madonna Inn, a very silly place indeed! We had to meet up with a JP (that we'd already contacted and put a deposit on from england) the day before and register and then send off some papers after the event to get our certificate - we had them posted to a friend in the US, but I dont see why they wouldnt post to UK... I think all states laws are different though, spur of the moment still probably needs a bit of planning.

Myself and Mrs Churchy did the 'tell a few friends and run away and get married in that america' it was brilliant and I'd personally never do it any other way! Family got over it pretty quick too!
We ended up with 14 guests and seeing as none of the things we had to pay for (cake, booze, meals etc) had the word "wedding" in front of them it worked out way cheaper and more unique than we could have hoped for!
We planned very little and if that doesnt scare you 'on your big day' then its the only way to go in my humble opinion! -

I'm plugging this sportive btw;
http://www.granfondoluciano.co.uk/
It's an excellent first sportive for those who've never ridden one with a few tough hills, including Whitedown (aka The Widowmaker) as the final climb of the day, but at 70 miles or so it isn't insanely difficult. I rode it last year as preparation for the Etape and got in a good group (eventually whittled down to two of us) and it was great fun.
The event starts and finishes at Leatherhead Sports Centre so is easily accessible from London.
Cheers for posting that, its for the Royal Marsden as well, so a good cause.

I made the jump to clipless in December, Sidi Dominators, as they did a wide fitting for my great fat feet... I too have found them cold, and I have poor circluation.
Then I bought some under socks from Blacks, they are made by 1000 Miles and have 2 layers, one of merino and one of normal wool / cotton (I think!) then wore them under Asos winter socks - they really help and are so comfy I keep wearing them off the bike...
I think they wick away the moisture so your feet don't get wet and cold so quick, but anyway, they are a good thing! -
Just came across this little lot...

Apologies if its a repost... I don't remember seeing it before?

A mate of mine's brother in law is a postie and I asked him some time ago if he could get hold of the bikes, he said they keep them running for something like 20 years before they are automatically retired and sent to Africa, I thought that was quiet cool.
Then I thought of the old big train sketch and imagined postmen riding in unison across the plains being chased by lions and I thought that was even better.
The whole start / end was a joke.
Even if you have an exclusion zone why make it impossible to see a thing for people behind it. Especially seeing as it was over half empty at the start!
Not sure why I expected better though really!
