For the ladies struggling to get good fit simultaneously on thigh and waist, I recommend tailoring. You can either do it the real way, having someone remove the waistband and pinch in from the side seams, or just having two darts done at the back will do the same thing more cheaply. I've had to do that for a few of my trousers.

Hey, we're finally going to get a bike trailer for ourselves (4 evar in ar hartz LFGSS bike tralier) and have run across the Raleigh Mule.

Does anyone know this trailer and whether it has completely flat base? I can't find pictures of it without the fabric on top to find out whether the rails fold down or come off to be as near to flat as possible.

Your insight is appreciated. : )

Some help from my dude in learning to negotiate traffic, what not to do, and some additional training by Wiggan Will and I am now a much more confident cyclist. I am slower, more aware, more able to ask for the space I deserve. I was you, now I am me. You might be a more confident you, too, with a little additional help in the form of some cycle training, as people have suggested.

And training should be available/required for everyone, cyclist and driver alike. We were required to do cycle training as kids in Florida in the 80s. Granted, it never got updated, and granted I wouldn't ride in Florida as the speeds are too great. But here in London we could possibly have some better cycling if speeds were actually enforced. Who gives a flip if everywhere is 20 mph when there's no enforcement?

All the talk of cycle training supposes that a safe journey is always down to the skills of the rider, without taking into account fuckwit actions of oblivious drivers. It's all very well for the more experienced riders to have their training, but unless it's built into the National Curriculum, you're not gonna get an overnight population of competent cyclists.

At least give the novices somewhere safer to learn their skillz.

Again, better infrastructure (and I don't like the idea of segregated cycle lanes as a) maybe sticking me behind slow, unpredictable, untrained cylists or b) making drivers feel that cyclists are required to use them and therefor even more angered by cyclists they encounter in "their" lanes), required training for all parties and proper enforcement of speed limits and current road laws. For example, the HGV driver on his mobile who quite obviously didn't see me. Why is he allowed to be driving?

Definitely need to be in on this.

btw, thanks for the rec, blowfish, I just wore my new pair of Craft 3/4s today and loved them. the fabric is much thinner than the Gore I normally wear but the padding is a perfect thickness. these are definitely summer knicks, though.

I hated having my boobs "delineated" so; I now wear both straps above the boobline and never have a problem with restricted movement or breathing except with really heavy loads. The difference it's made to my lower back is startling, though, in that I barely have any lower back pain anymore. Win!

Mmm...Craft....I'll ahve to check those out. Thanks, blowfish! I prefer padding a bit thinner, which is why I'm not quite up to purchasing another PI pair.

JWestland, what's your usual size in UK sizing? I'm a 10 and tend to go for S.

Now, next question - ladies, which brand of tights do you like best? I've got the Gores that Tanya has but am looking for a lower, flat waistband like the Pearl Izumi sugar knickers. I felt that the padding in the PIs was too thick. I like the Gore padding better but need a lower waistband.

Hats, yes it does - I currently have one, made either by Specialized or Canondale. The problem with it is that it is old enough now that the white lining is flaking away. And the zippers always caught a bit at my 'pits.

I've had a pair of Sidi Dragons for 4-5 years now, they're still in great condition (on their second set of replacement sole-parts), and I have every confidence that they'll last at least another 5 years.

But- they are slightly too small. Only slightly- I've been ignoring it for years, but I really should go up a size/go to the mega.

However- before I automatically get another pair of Dragons, should I consider any other makes/models?

Don't know if this is too late, Neil, but my understanding is that recently (year? two? dunno) Sidi have begun sourcing their foot plates from another company and they apparently are not lasting as well as the older style. Also, these are now apparently wider. So try a new pair if you like but maybe try to find an old stock pair of Dragons in your size on ebay or sidicafe.co.uk

While this is true, it does necessitate a change in the nature of the contract with anybody who employs you, one which a local authority looking to employ social workers is unlikely to be ready for, and may not even countenance.

I think that owuld probably be based on the insurance thing. Maybe. As long as they could pay me they might be OK with it but they have to go through Matrix or Commensura so I'm not sure that would work out.

That leaves me back to being paid by an Umbrella company. I hate these fuckers. I spoke to an accountant who said that I would barely make any more money as a Ltd Co. than under umbrella and would have to do all this tax stuff and pay for it myself so I figured what's the point?

Ah. So with Ltd and Umbrella (so long as I'm paid by a company) I get indemnity insurance. I read the direct.gov page but it didn't tell me what I wanted to know. I thought there was a kind of worker who was more suited to one or other tax setup. Is there also something like IR-34? Maybe that's the one I'm not really meant to be doing.
