I don't know if it has already been posted or not but the list has grown to such an extent it takes ages to scroll down any page, but yeah there's a demonstration on saturday, so that might mess up your journeys..
There's a Campaign against Climate Change conference at Kings Collge (Waterloo campus) from 11am onwards, see http://www.campaigncc.org/ .
Also there's a demo and march against faith-based tribunals. That's gonna affect Trafalgar Square, plus whatever route they take from there to Red Lion Street, but it looks like it's in the afternoon - see http://fleshisgrass.wordpress.com/2009/03/06/demonstration-this-saturday-7-march-09-one-law-for-all/

Mmm, so many nice watches.
I usually wear this Nike thing - bought when I was running because it has a funky accelerometer thingy that goes on your foot to measure speed and distance. Haven't tried it on the bike...
When I finished my degree, I bought this Fortis that I'd seen and fallen in love with. Unfortunately it needs some work on it as the screw-down crown no longer screws down :(

lol @ your tarry protection Steff ^^
I find I get a weird metallic taste in my mouth after commuting on days when the traffic is particularly bad, but I have no idead if it's really pollutants I can taste.
I did read somewhere that sitting in a car in traffic is just as bad for your lungs, but I think the fact cycling makes you breath more deeply probably sucks the poisons in deeper.
My asthma caught up with me last year, after nearly 20 years of no problems. It was an A&E job. Interestingly, the hospital and my GP both agreed with my theory that my total lack of fitness at the time was mainly to blame.
I've now got one of those lung capacity meters which is interesting to use before and after riding - even after a commute through central London I tend to have better capacity than at the start.

I have some dull work to do on Saturday but if I can get it out of the way early I'll see you all there. Coming from Twickers so may catch you Wests in Hammersmith.

I've got a copy of Roger Musson's (Mr WheelPro) wheelbuilding guide which is great and I'd recommend his cardboard dishing tool - see attachment for what it looks like (once you've cut it out of an old packing box).
You slide a steel rule against the middle portion until it's touching the locknut on one side, hold it with your thumb and then flip the wheel over to check it against the other side.
Also, you'll probably find that you need the wheel in reasonable true before you can really check the dish otherwise any wobbly bits will tend to give you a false reading.
Final thought - how much of an adjustment to the dish do you need to make? Much more than a few mm and you may find the drive side spokes start poking through the nipples...
Hope that all actually makes sense :-)

The Andels are indeed nice. Got a 18T coming to me in fact.
You could go super-expensive and get a Phil Wood - they certainly go up to 20T but are gonna be double the price of the Andel...
I've stripped two hubs (well, both sides of a flip-flop hub) with a shitty cheap cog and it pi**ed me right off. THe relative hassle of relaving the hub compared to the cog makes it well worth while spending extra IMHO.

So I have an oldish Bob Jacko Tandem (late 70's maybe? Dunno), with very odd hubs. They were rebuilt by the previous owner, who sent the hubs to Alf Webb for new rims and spokes.
He's done a nice job, but I'm concerned that the distance between the flanges is a wee bit small - the fact that it's got an old screw-on freewheel doesn't exactly help. It's 125mm OLN and the flanges are ~35mm apart. The (slight) bonus is that it's a flip-flop hub, so there's no dishing which I guess will strengthen it up a bit.
So, can anyone put a name to these hubs, or even better give me a clue as to whether I should feel confident putting some serious miles on this thing?
Thanks everyone.

Hopefully nota repost, sorry... This from http://www.sheldonbrown.com/shimano1982/pages/35.html - kind of the opposite of a fixed wheel. -
Have been lurking for too long now, so time to lay myself open to the ridicule that I have come to expect on this thread. My titanium thing is due for a makeover - various parts on order including raw wheel ingredients for me to cook up on my friend's jig.
I bought the frame about 5 years ago, on the cheap from some bike shop oop north and it's been built up as a fixed wheel ever since. It's apparently a Raleigh TI frame, no idea how this bike shop got hold of them but it cost me 350. You'll all probably (rightfully) slag me off for the multitudinous braze-ons (cable guides etc.), to say nothing of the derailliuer hanger and unaligned tyre labels but I didn't fancy my chances with an angle grinder (and I took the lights and bell off too)...
Current set up is:
ancient mavic g40 on no-name front hub
mavic open pro 32h on white industries eccentric rear hub - a 16t sprocket is fitted
hsc3 carbon forks
deda zero stem - upside down(!) to gain some height as I foolishly chopped the steerer tube too short 5 years ago :-(
3ttt bars of some description
manky front brake with mankier dirty pads in that graunch the wheel with a graunchy noise
selle italia saddle
no-name seatpin
random double chainset with one ring removed - a 44t ring is fitted.sitting on my desk is an Andel crankset in silver - yay velorution @ £42. On order is a 44t TA ring, another open pro 32h rim, a Suzue Pro Max hub to go with it, Alpine db spokes for 3-cross and a KMC chain.
It felt so good buying parts again, after a long long period of abstinence
Yes I'm replying to myself now... Having zoomed in on one of the photos I took, I think this overhaul is loooong overdue, don't you?

Well +lots to coppiThat, I'd do the same ftw every time.
Some discussion of mobile jammers etc and their illegality etc. too (yeah, like that stops some of us RLJing, riding brakeless, etc. etc.) but it did remind me of some highly entertaining techie things I found a-trawling on the intarweb some time ago.
EDIT: Hippy already linked to something similar (damn you hippy), but you don't expect me to actually read everyone else's posts do you? Check out http://www.ladyada.net/make/wavebubble/index.html for instructions on how to make your own cell phone jammer, as designed by an MIT graduate who is obviously quite clever.
She also designed some sunnies that block out the telly (handy for pubs with tellys) and these complete wicked spoke lights:
You can make these yourself (if you are handy with a soldering iron) - see http://www.ladyada.net/make/spokepov/ for details.

This is actually verging on NSFW! How entertaining.
If you have ever used IRC, then http://www.bash.org/?top is absofreakinglutely hilarious. If not then it's still quite funny. Not quite epic fail but in the spirit of Ross' post ^^^

That Velocio cat subverting the nursery system and letting the kittens out early so that they can rampage around the forum like rampagey things*?
- Someone said that yesterday in the Nursery thread and I found it amusing enough to plagiarise it here.
That was my idea! (Vic and Bob anyone?)
Glad to be of service :-)

Just seen this thread... I have a purple Bob Jacko tandem that you could borrow. The back wheel is off for a puncture at the moment but otherwise it's in full working.
Given that I'm a newbie on here and don't know you, I'd need some kind of security that you won't bugger off with it, mind :-)
PM me if you want more details.

What makes me jump up and down is the way the cops only ever see what they want to. When I used to RLJ, I'd get pounced on and have to endure the whole patronising spiel...
When some twat 1/2 kills me on Priory Lane (Leading into Richmond Park) and a rozzermobile rolls past 20 seconds later, it takes me until the middle of the sodding park (yes, up the hill) to wave them down. And they couldn't be arsed to call it in.
Could have been something to do with the fact I was purple, choking and all shaky from racing them through the park... prolly thought I'd just invented it.
I've gone all a bit BikeRadar these days, though, so no more RLJ for me.
good point, well argued, though the sun doesn't look low enough to me. However, I'd better stop with this before I sound like one of those people who analyse photos of the moon landings...
The idea of car drivers speeding around "hoping for the best" fills me with terror; 'specially as it seems like that's actually how so many actually seem to behave.
