For all out there with tight clearances I have been finding Schwalbe Marathon plus' quite good, I run them a lot of the year, heavy yes but 25c.
Plus here in Dublin everywhere is ice, I havent seen one truck gritting or salting and I have been riding every day.

There is a very long waiting lists for these bikes, even for suppliers and retailers, very very nice bike.

Your best bet is to just get an old shitty tyre, possibly a cast off from a bike shop.
You ever cycled while holding another bike at the stem? Easy as once you remember when your slowing down the other bike will carry momentum
