Tubs are brilliant on..... a tubular rim. Which is almost always lighter than a clincher rim. Really don't understand the thinking on these. Plus Tufos, in my experience, ride like a sack of shit compared to a good tub, or even an average tub. Plus they have some of the highest rolling resistance of any tubular. Oh, and their self seal compound that supposedly makes up for their non-repairability doesn't work either.

For any one interested, I have listed a Shamal TRACK rear and a Shamal Clincher front wheel on ebay.

I was thinking back the other day on a Roberts Lo-Pro that I had in the early 80s. It was used as my everyday bike. I got the bike from a serious racer, so it came to me with a real old skool tester set up of 19mm Conti Olympic Track tubular on the rear - the cream coloured one, and a very light silk on the front - can't remeber which one, now.
Anyway, I very rarely had any punctures - the bike was ridden every day all over town. The rear tub was worn down to the casing and still punctured very rarely. When it did, I did my own very lo-fi repairs. They cetainly punctured much, much less than my Gatorskin clinchers do, now. I guess the tubs where well mutured. So, I think a really good quality matured tubs should be very puncture proof.

This is Dominiqe Gabellini's new aero crit bike. Its mental close up. If you have riden Eastway or Hillingdon, its odds on that Domininiqe will have beaten at some point. He is ex-national crit champion in his age group. I love this like I love the bikes from the early lo-pro days of TT - a quirky mix of parts that have been proven to work for the owner with a few wild cards thrown in. It is built for one purpose only - kicking arse at crits. -

My mate's new Condor aero prototype with crit specific set up. Sorry for dodgy photo. Stunner in the flesh - super clean looking. 11 speed electronic Super Record, single chain ring with very slick little chain guide at the front, brakes concealed in fork, extra deep Boras, customised RAM, the list goes on. It felt blood light, too. Was very jealous.

Re, rolling off tubs. Unless you are glueing your tubs or using the industrial strength Tufo tape, you are asking for trouble. I found out to my cost when I rolled a tub a max speed during a sprint at Eastway that standard tape is shit. I would think if you are doing any trickery it would have to be glue every time.

Well, lets try to answer all those responses, eh.
Ian Curtis did express interest in joining, but we could not round the problem of him being dead. What a technique, though.
Yes, you would have thought us creative types would want to mix with others...... But then I thought, talk shop and train at the same time. It an open goal.
James KJ. You would be very welcome. I will PM you with details.
Creationists, of course, speak the truth. If you are a creative creationist, then there is a special golden jersey just for you.
If you are a creative accountant please PM me as am having terrible trouble with the Revenue right now.
Hope that helps.

Not sure if I am allowed a running club in this thread. But lets just think of it as very effective cross training.
I have started a running club for London based creatives - graphics, fashion, photographers, illustrators, musicians, etc. The club is called CREATE/RUN, LONDON. It is limited to about 50 people - with places already going fast. The club will be informal, it will be a way of developing a community of creative runners of all abilities, men and women. Plus giving encouragement to runners who want to add a little more structure to their training. Racing of all types will be encouraged.
Nike will be coming on board with kit and other support.
Let me know if you are interested.

^^^Agreed, seems a hell of a lot of money to spend on a frame to then build it up like that, even for hhsb!
Well, and I think this might make a few people sick, I got the frame for £300 on ebay. The guy wanted £500 but no one bid(!), so I beat him down. It was a sweaty few hours waiting for that auction to end. It was already a grotty silver finish, so had it resprayed. Have to say that as not cheap. It also goes to work on the track with drops and Zipps.
....and, hhsb has to have an element of madness, surely?
