My other halfs bike was stolen at the weekend (d locked to a wall bracket at the back of the house) and so I need to sort out a replacement. I have a pearson touche that I have not ridden for a while but i need to make some changes before she can ride it.
It has bullhorn style bars and I want to swap these for a set of drop bars with compatiable levers. I understand there are different widths available so if someone could point me in the right direction i'd be grateful I'm not sure what size the stem is.
I might also have to swap the stem as i think i read somewhere women have a shorter reach.
Here are some pictures of the current set up
I'm looking for some cheap bars and levers but not too cheap as to being useless all recommendations appreciated. I'm not very skilled when it comes to mechanics so if it's best left to the professionals then that's fine.

Have tested the Caadx Tiagra and must say it looks a lot better in the flesh. I wasn't too keen on the paint job but I've just taken one out just now and it rides well. It's whether i'll have this niggling thought about the 105 everytime I look down and see the cables come out of the Tagra shifters.
My ride2 work is with Evans and i contemplated the Pinnacle Arkos. I seem to be between sizes though as the small seemed too small and the medium though OK was didn't feel as comfortable as the 'dale. The Arkose 2 could be ideal for my needs though.
If the 51cm 105 is unavailable then maybe my decision is made for me and I should just get the tiagra and if i'm that bothered swap the shifters later.

I want to order a new Caadx 105 disc in 51cm but apparently there are none available until next year because of a manufacturing problem with the 51cm frames. Anyone heard anything.
The new 2014 pinnacle cross bikes are up on Evans' website. The one and three seem the same as last year but the two has gone for 1x10 and hydraulic discs.

Does it have to be Evans?

Yeah has to be Evans. I fancied a Kinesis but once the scheme came through that idea was out of the window.

my cycle to work scheme has opened but unlike last time I can't use any bike shop and have to do it through Evans I'm after a cyclocross bike/commuter to take over from my Pearson fixie.
I'm attracted to the 105 groupset and disc brakes. I need it to take a pannier and at times as child seat. other options are the Genesis Croix De Fer and the canondale caadx. I think I read somewhere that pinnacles are designed but someone who used to design for Genesis. does anyone have any experience with either of these bikes.

well its not as bad as i thought, there's life still left in the old dog yet. New chain and sprocket needed, rear hub needs re packing and a few bits here and there.
I reckon this time i need to clean the chain a bit more, especially in winter. With the weather in Manc you clean it one day then it rains and the rods are full of that black crud that it pics but again.
Thanks for the advice

Yeah I'm no mechanic but surely 3 years of hard work/shit weather isn't going to fuck up a ss/fixed that badly? Hubs/chain/sprocket/brakes (if used) and wheel trueing if necessary and it'll be back on form.
Hopefully it just needs a tighten here and an adjust there. I've love a new bike but can't really afford one at the moment. If it needs a load of stuff though it might tip me over the edge (to a new bike) .

I've had my Peason Touche for coming up to 3 years and it's starting to show its age. I've ridden to work 5 days a week in Manchester including all the way through Winter. Recently I've realised i've probably ridden it into the groud.
It needs a new front wheel, probably a new chain, front and rear sproket and what ever else and as i'm shit with a a spanner I'll take it to someone in Manchester to service and sought out.
If it comes up to £150-200 quid including labour i'm thinking it might be worth Just getting a new bike instead.
As i bought it through the bike to work scheme i never paid the full whack any how.
So is it worth fixing or should i look to get a new bike.
The paint work is still ok so it may be worth keeping.
regards.

I'm about 5'6" with a 29/30" inside leg so I'm going to order a 52cm frame. I've tried to find a bike shop that is local with a 52cm road bike with similar dimensions in stock but it seems most stock 54's and they would have to order a 52 in for a shorty like me.
Anyone of a similar height got a Touche?

I still have my Nikon f4 which i have not used for a couple of years since buying my d80. I have a fickr thingy but not used it for a while.

I bought a Touche a month or two ago and am really happy with it so far. Would recommend upgrading the chain and tyres (£8 and £20 for the pair extra) as the stock stuff isn't great but other than that they are a great bike!
The stock gearing (48/18) is perfect in London and has taken me to Brighton and done loads of laps of Richmond Park so should be about right in Manchester as long as you aren't on too hilly a commute. Thanks for your input.

When you say bar ends do you mean the turny up bits you get on the ends of mtb handlebars? It you like riding on them you'll probably like bullhorns, it'll be a similar sort of riding position, i'm guessing.
Yes that's what I mean by bar ends. I use them all the time apart from when I need to brake.
Cheers Vince I really Appreaciate that.
