sorry, came late to this one.
My thought on velorution-went there this week as they had advertised on their website brooks b17 saddle £32.95. travelled 15 mins down there, and price £50. Told me they hadn't had time to update website, and seemed unapologetic, i left with a rant about wasting my time and how i'd buy online instead and losing a customer blah blah. Clearly they had time to write a racist, bigoted blog to offend everyone, ...and don't care too much about gaining/keeping customers. anyway, wont be going back.

Did you get the wheel from a shop? If so they should be able to measure against another one. If not you could google the wheel and see if you can get some specs off the company.
nope, bought the wheel second hand off here, so its about third-hand now! check this thread http://www.londonfgss.com/thread7226.html

hmmm... bike at home, me in city! was hoping to get the bits at lunchtime, go home, fix bike... guess i could remove spoke tonight and bring back in tomorrow. Just another day off the road! i could ride with a broken spoke but i've found on my mtb that doing this can put the whole wheel out, and i'm sure my skills don't stretch to truing a wheel just yet!

ok, so i finished my first build 2 days ago, went for the first ride and all good. Got bike out this morning and discovered a broken spoke on the rear (drive side).
Now after having spent about a month avoiding the bike shop and doing a complete build myself, dont really want to have to wait a month to get them to replace a spoke. Also having sworn to myself i wasn't spending another penny on the bike (i just had to add a brooks saddle as a finishing touch)...Bottom line is I want to replace the spoke myself, having never done it before, how easy is it? is it best to rebuild the whole wheel or can i just do one spoke? the wheel is still true. What tools do i need? any tips?
the wheel is a mavic open pro on system ex flip flop hub. I weigh 100kgs so not going to ride the bike till i replace the spoke!

ok so i'm thinking of discarding the idea of butchering my drops into bullhorns, and going for a moustache style handlebar for my cheapo-pub-cruiser single speed. Any ideas? And i'm not spending 30 quid on Nitto's.
It would be good to get some advice before this thread descends into the posting of pictures of tom selleck. -

hi there
stupid question... want to make a single speed bike, and im shopping around for new wheelset... thing is all the info (including sheldon) seems to talk about converting a shimano cassette... the wheels i want to buy are campagnolo... can i still drop on a surly/shimano/other 16t freewheel cog and spacers onto campag wheels, or do they have to be shimano? -
hi there
looking for wheelset (700c) for ss project... pref with 16t ss cog on rear, although can fit myself if needs be. Must be new, or near new, stong and true.also looking for 42t chainset pref 172mm cranks if poss. Near new or new.
also, as i'm a newbie, would like some recommendations on buying these new- any suggestions?

well, i'm looking for a 700c wheelset. Kiwi cycles do a budget wheelset for £75 http://www.kiwicycles.com/wheels.htm however they could take 2 weeks. Also theres the budget shimano numbers WH-R500 which have had mixed reviews http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/review/reviewproduct/mps/RGN/11/RCN/140/RPN/21948/RER/1/v/2
theres a few ok wheels on ebay, but i'm a bit suspicious of ebay listing if they dont say whether the wheels are 'true' or not... and some say 'used for 12 months'- which could mean anything from a sunday ride to daily courier work, who knows.
but basically i just need a good strong set of wheels for my ss project. i bought an old 10 speed raliegh flyer, good frame, the wheels are rubbish so i'm just wanting to replace the wheels, add a freewheel ss cog and new cranket.
i'd love to do the wheel build night, sounds excellent, however my in-laws are in town from Oz so i have to trawl around the tourist traps all weekend...

hi there... i'm new here so bear with me...
looking for a good strong wheelset for a single speed freewheel conversion... Any recommendations for wheelsets under £80?...
i'm assuming i'd go for a shimano freehub set and slot on a 16t cog... with a 42 chainset up front.
i'm a big guy (100kg) so need strong wheels... any suggestions... help!
helpful info.
fyi my chain was making hell of a racket for the last month, had it tight as fck and was riding up hill and popped a KMC chain... so i reckon- if you can hear it- its too tight. I learnt the hard way... ever had a chain snap on you? not fun.
