Amazing. That's exactly what I needed. Thanks for taking the time to write that out...
Good tip re the parts bin. I suspect the Aether has been out of production for a couple years but I'll give it a go.
You're right, maybe they didn't nick the entire headset... But looking closely, it seems like maybe they cut it in half?

As shown in the first image, I can lift half the FSA branded ring, and it looks like it's been sawed in half....
I was at the pub last night, and my mate had locked his bike up across the road within eye sight...
He was suddenly like, I don't think I can see my handle bars, and as we squinted to see, a kid on a bike was removing his saddle as well. We ran out and chased him down the street but couldn't catch him. That's already happened once to him. Mental. It's so rife!

Following my handle bars getting stolen from outside a pub last month, I'm looking to replace them.
I'm about to order the shifters, and thinking I might as well get handlebars/headset and stem at the same time from the same place. But just wanted to check that I'm not making any clanging mistakes with the gear I'm going to buy, as I'm relatively inexperienced when it come to buying parts.
Here's what my Genesis Aether 30 bike came with:
Brake Levers:Shimano 105 STI
Handlebars:Genesis 6061 Shallow Drop
Stem:Genesis 6061 / 7 degree drop / 31.8mm clamp
Headset:FSA AheadsetWhat I'm thinking of buying...
brake levers
SHIMANO 105 STI brake/shift lever combination ST-5700 (silver)

SHIMANO Ultegra/105/Tiagra brake cable set (black)Handlebars - FSA racing handlebar Omega Compact
http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/f...act/aid:257417Stem - Ritchey Comp stem 4 AXIS 100mm
http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/r...387/aid:554410
(currently out of stock so might buy elsewhere)Headset - Any recommendations? Thought this one, but really I'm just guessing...
Stronglight headset O’Light LX
http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/s...-lx/aid:554310Obviously, stem clamp and handlebars need to match (31.8mm) but any other factors I need to bear in mind that I've overlooked?
Thanks in advance....

so now that pay day has rolled around, it looks like I'm going to buy from Rose Bikes, but just wanted to double check I'm buying the right shifters. It looks to me I had Shimano105 5700s before so going to go for this:

For this bike:

Does that seem right?

The stem/handlebars from my Genesis Aether 30 got nicked from outside of the Scolts Head in De Beauvoir on Saturday night. I'm raging! Turned out to be a very expensive pint.
So, looking to buy back some handle bars, a stem, and Shimano 105 Shifters (10 speed) on here.
The idea of spending £200+ on components just to get my bike back to where it was, is not something I can afford to do, so hoping there might be some deals on here.
Here's a photo of how my ride is currently looking!

Sooo, I got a flat on my front tire, and as a result I've just realized I might have lost the Secura key....
Rather than being a regular a allen key, it's 5 sided.
So I'm wondering what can I do about it? Doesn't look like you can buy the keys on their own...
Really don't wanna be off my bike for long, but short of drilling the skewers off, I don't know how I'll get my wheel off! £30 for another set would be annoying.

Hello all.
So for the last 3-4 years I've been happily cruising/commuting on a bike I bought from a user on this forum. Cheers @Eardley! It worked a dream! Until, on Friday after work I had to carry a boom home with me so I couldn't ride with a £3000 mic in my hand .... As a result, I left my my bike parked in Old Street over night. And predictably when I returned this morning to grab it, it was gone. Raging.
Anyway, if anyone is looking to sell a 53-54 cm(!) framed bike (I'm 5'11 proper average), either single-speed or road bike, let me know as I want to be back up and mobile as soon as possible.
Cheers!
Dave

ok great. yeah i had looked at that other cycling yoga thread, but I was interested in doing Yoga irrespective of my cycling/i don't have any cycling related injuries.
It might still be worth checking out.
Yeah let me know Bleakreference. I realise Stokie will be crawling with this kind of thing, but thought this forum might be useful for finding a place that isnt too pretentious.
Thanks again for the responses so far!

I've recently started thinking about going to yoga classes, but I'd have to find a place that was relatively, erm, accessible for noobs, for me to feel comfortable going.
I went for a while at university, and enjoyed it, although the teacher was a bit of a weird dude/sex pest. That wasn't a problem for me, as i was the wrong gender, but it kind of put me off anyway.
So, if anyone can recommend a yoga centre, for a beginner, preferably in Stoke Newington/Hackney, I'd be interested to hear about it!

OK, great. Some useful info.
And as far as using bikes direct, it seems the bikes are pretty decent quality for cheap, despite them being brands im not familiar with.
Would anyone recommend against getting something like the Mercier TT for a driving around town/commuting ride? It's probably only worth the hassle if I go for one of these cheap end ones, but if there's a danger it will be turd, even 250 quid is alot for a turd.

So Im out in the US visiting my parents, and having seen a post about how cheap bikes can be out here Im thinking of looking into buying one and bringing it home.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for places online to check out? I can't find the original thread, which was posted about 10 days ago which had some awesome deals, so if anyone is more of a search wiz, let me know if you can find it.
EDIT: I found the link... http://www.bikesdirect.com
I am here for another week, so could potentially mailorder, or I am between Philly and New York, if there are local places I should check out.
also, if there are any things i should bear in mind, like tax issues/plane charges, and whether it's worth my while to even bother, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

So going to Nyc with some friends on Friday... I am only there for the weekend and staying at an apartment on the Lower East side.
Whilst I am there, we are probably going to be pretty party based, and I've heard that things tend to shut at 3am. But we've been wondering, if we're still feeling fresh, are there any places that are worth checking out after that time in that area??
Apartment is on the edge of Tompsin's Square Park.

some wicked stuff in here... and plenty to check out. cheers!
By the way Chris, I am a radio producer, making specialist music radio shows. I work for an indie but make content for a couple different BBC networks. I also make my own stuff, and used to DJ out quite a bit, but not since moving to London... Maybe I should think about starting that back up!
I think I'll look into East Village area as well... I just presumed as it was on Manhattan that it would be too expensive! But when I visited NY last year i liked the vibe of that area a lot...
Interesting shit about the subways as well. Nice lil bit of history/geology included in the thread!

Yooo.
I live in London, but have an american passport, and having worked for a few years out of university, I'm thinking about quitting my job and heading to NYC for a change in the next few months...
I have no idea where to find stuff out about NY so gonna give it a go here and see what happens... Craigslist just seems so mental, it would probably put me off the idea entirely...
Firstly, am I crazy moving to NYC without a job? I currently work in radio, and realize that radio in the US sucks on the whole (short of NPR and college stuff, which wouldn't pay...)... so I guess I'd have to look at other fields.... Is it a total bitch to find jobs in the US at the moment?
And secondly, what areas should I be checking out in terms of renting... I think Brooklyn might be my bag, and heard Williamsburg is recommended but no idea how accurate that is...
Anyone who knows both NYC and London, I live in Stoke Newington and hang out in Dalston/Old St/Hackney most of the time... Anywhere you'd recommend I look as a 27 yr old moving to a new city, and potentially no job!?
Not sure if it's a really stupid idea, but its intriguing me...
Hey all,
My girlfriend has been cruising around on a friend's bike for the last 9 months, but now that the friend's maternity leave is over, she's going back to work and wants her bike back!
So, I've had some good experiences buying and selling bikes on here before, so thought I'd give it another go. Anyone trying to get rid of a bike that might suit for a London commute? Aesthetically, my girlfriend is into old racers but regardless, I'd love to hear what's on offer.
Thanks!
