Brixton CC Supermad Celebrating the legendary Rob Jefferies
In homage to big Ron BeckettHerne Hill has Madison fever. And we like to think Brixton CC kick started this back in 2009 when it featured a Madison in its race programme. The Madison now features in loads more Herne Hill meets and training sessions. The Brixton meet has had a few changes since but remains a very individual meet. This years Supermad is committed to giving women riders equity in the prize money. The lovely folk at Friends of Herne Hill have put up £100 for the women’s Keirin alone. Thank you. We have special bags of sweeties , free track bike services, goodies galore for competitors - a cycle jumble, beer tent and our own club chefs frying up hot chicken. And of course all set to a backdrop of Robs favourite tunes. Rob Jefferies remains a big presence for the Supermad meet. We are committed to remembering this outstanding cyclist and all round good bloke. If you asked Rob about his best moments in cycling he would say either winning his first national medal - Kierin 1993- or winning the West Thames 20K with a certain Mr Wiggins second. Now his daughter Eve has thrown herself into track cycling. No pressure but she got Dad and bro’ to match up to. In 1998 with Robs help George was bagging national medals with Gold in the U16 500m TT and Bronze in the 2km pursuit and sprint. The meet pays homage to the lovely Ron Beckett. One of Robs and our favourite track judges and all round kind man. We miss you both.
Featuring all new format Ron Beckett Mixed Doubles Double Harness Madison Pursuit!
Same format different team set up - mixed doubles – so at least one rider is a woman -

The unofficial Herne Hill Madison season kicks off with the Brixton CC Super Madison Open Track meet on 25th June.
An action packed card of proper racing will guarantee it to be a mother of an endurance event.
Last year Brixton CC took no prisoners. This year- aided and abetted by chief commissaire Geoff Hodges we hope we can provide the same level of thrills and no spills.
Cleats in is at 2.30 with a combined 10 lap scratch race with cash prizes. Riders will be submitted to Devils that jostle with sprints, a Kierin, the Ron Beckett Madison Pursuit, the odd scratch and the Super Madison Finale.
The whole day is dedicated to Rob Jefferies- who founded this meet as a tribute to big Ron Beckett.
We hope we can honour these 2 great men of grass roots cycling with what Rob would call some 'proper racing'.

It is with great sadness and feeling of devastation that we hear of the untimely death of former Brixton Cycles club mate Rob Jefferies.
Rob was not just a great personal friend he was my track mentor. He encouraged me with his usual dead pan way to just give it a go at competition after a short induction! Then gave valuable advice. Training rides with him were especially memorable. They usually ended with my tongue hanging out and maybe Rob commenting on the lanes. All I saw was a big expanse of a lycra and not much else.
Its also his fault I now run the Brixton CC track meet. And without the ease and flair he had. He organised it brilliantly over 4 years (only to see it rained off for 3) as he did all his events. .... Yet again this year I am not ready and now he is not here for me to stress out at and sort it for me.
Rob dedicated the Brixton meet to big Ron Beckett with the Ron Beckett double harness pursuit (don't ask). Ron another gentle big man of racing sport was lucky to have some great moments with Rob (Rob as track rider and track commissaire) And I hope Rob is sharing some great moments with him again.
We all have great unique moments with Rob that will stay with us forever. I cannot believe I will not have any more with him. Brixton CC especially send big love from all of us to wife Jane and 'kids' George and Eve. He loved them all deeply.
With any luck I will be able to track down a chief commissaire for the Brixton CC meet on the 25th June at Herne Hill. The whole meet will be dedicated to Rob. More information to follow. Judith.
