I have used garmin devices from the etrex H, etrex 20, Oregon, the edge 800 and now the 530.

Very satisfied with the 530 though occasionally miss the touch screen of the 800, but not too often

or is there something else for this on a phone?

I would say it is, Sarande is very built up down towards the South, but a day trip to Corfu via ferry is an idea.
Xsamil has nice small beaches but almost all are backed by and owned by restaurants.

Stayed in a castle on the way down from Tirana to Sarande in Elbasan worth a short visit if driving down.

I thought having AA batteries on my etrex is very neat, but now I feel that it's a bit of a faff, and don't like the idea of buying and tossing a lot of single-use ones.

Why not use rechargeables, hybrio work for me

Is there a piece of free software (Windows) that allows you to join two MP4 files (they have been recorded at different resolutions). Tried VLC but that didn't seem to work.

Managed to make it rotate approx 1,5 turn, then it seizes.

Try GT85 or similar and repeatedly rotate both ways within the limit of movement, this will allow the lubricant to work along the threads, you may get slightly more movement each time
