Hi Matt, yes, it has the threaded hole at the top for attaching a light. This is the silver powdercoated version. It is advertised as "cold drawn steel", not stainless steel.

Protest ride starts at IWGB offices in Bethnal Green at 4:30pm. Stopping at Gillet Square, Dalston at 5pm, Enfield Town station at 6:15pm, and departing en masse from Enfield Town station to Civic Centre at 6:30pm, Arriving at Civic centre 6:45pm.

Anyone wanting to join the protest can either ride with us from Bethnal Green or join us at Dalston or Enfield Town station.

Cycle instructors do much more than deliver Bikeability in schools. You will find them teaching children and adults how to ride for the first time, or delivering all manner of free community activities from led rides and Dr Bike to Cycling on Prescription.

Most cycle instructors are also very active members of the cycling community, campaigning for more funding and better infrastructure for existing and wannabe cyclists. Some are also LFGSS members.

The issues raised as part of this campaign are by no means restricted to this one London borough or contract. This is a national issue affecting instructors across the country.

Most instructors are on zero hours contracts with no employment rights. Some paid as little as £50/day, and most without a pay rise in 10+ years.

Work can be cancelled at the drop of a hat, and arbitrary dismissal can happen without due process. To top it all, since 2020, insructors are being forced to shoulder the expense of retraining, thanks to a widely criticised restructuring of the instructors qualification.

Any saddle/position suggestions for numb knob syndrome. Possibly due to a anterior pelvic tilt pushing my perineum into current saddle nose (Arione). I inherited a fair degree of tilt at birth - (thanks genes), which has gotten worse in recent years for a number of reasons. Plan to do some off the bike restorative work, and have a few bike fit tweaks i'll be making in the coming weeks. In the mean time I'm wondering if any particular saddle design/shape is better for anterior tilt e.g. cut out saddles, flat or dipped top rather than curved. Saddles I'm considering, Selle Anatomica X2, Rivet Independance, Selle Italia Novus Boost Classic, Selle SMP Stratos. Any suggestions welcome.

Playing devils advocate, but will it still be a straight 13% pay rise once providers have slashed hourly rates to compensate for their new additional staffing costs. And what about all tthose instructors who are better off as self-employed, who have pensions from previous careers, where instructing is a second household income and a few days unpaid sick is neither hear nor there, and for who hourly rate is most important.

I'm familiar with the sad demise of CTUK, a severe blow to the overall diversity of the industry, (not to mention the individuals directly impacted by the closure). However, I didn't realise all CTUK staff were employed.

But getting back to your wondering if worker status could apply to cycle Instructors, the answer is, absolutely yes! Three years ago when some of us first met with IWGB, they were pretty adamant that worker status would apply to instructors. Not only that, they were pretty keen on going for it, through the courts. But there was a problem, about ⅔ of Instructors at that time wanted to be self-employed, or didn't want to take the likely hit to their hourly rate l, inevitable with worker status. The other ⅓ were a mixture in favour of worker/employed status. Ultimately, that's why we went down the association route rather than the union route. Academic because it came to nothing at that time.

Personally, I think a better balance of all three employment status would be best for Instructors and the industry, but the question remains: what do instructors want now?

HMRC/tax law recognises three types of employment status, self-employed, worker, and employed. Limb (b) Worker is the legal name for 'worker'. Assumed that was how CTUK viewed its instructors, when in operation. Anyway, yes it could work for instructors, however, not all instructors want worker status.
